If you scroll down to Fishing in North Cyprus you will see info and about where to get licences/permits from which departments. It's a start if the info is not up to date.

We will probably have to wait years for anything to happen and for the Cypriots to cotton on to the money to be made and an increase in tourism - BUT - what if they stocked the new dam with rainbow trout and carp? Inside of five years it would be a fishing mecca and fishermen would pay to come here and pay to fish here as well. There could also be large commercial gain from the trout fish farming for little work.

However - dynamite being much more effective than fishing fly's would probably bring it all to a swift end - lol.

On the positive side, even if it failed it could not be turned into another shoe shop and think of how the money spent could be hidden unless you could actually count the fish - laundering in fresh water???

Just a thought!

I've fished the lake at the Golf Course through a Guy called Barry, sorry I no longer have his number. I', sure if you ring the Golf course they will have it.

There are some great Carp in there to a good size, but someone at some point has put Talapi in there and they are swarming. You have to float fish because the bottom is full of boulders and you lose to much tackle. So its getting past the Talapi thats the problem.

Anyway I hope that may help.

Why not ask at one of the various tackle shops around - they must know all about it. The one nearly opposite HSBC in Girne (Mermaid I think) has English speakers.

If you live on the Lapta side of Girne pop into the Wild Duck and speak to Az (Tony) the owner he will put you right.

jofra, best never swim in the sea then or eat any seafood - because you never know what they eat - lol. Rainbow trout are all toilet trained at birth and know that when they want to "GO" they have to swim to the surface, turn upside down and then go as hard as they can so the "residue" fly's up into the air - where the birds are waiting to eat and of course the birds only ever "GO" in special places (like your swimming pool) so that is safe as well. Carp are different, they are basically bottom feeders and they bury whatever it is they do in the bottom of the lake - its much better and healthier that way.

Well - what a load of old COD that was - lol. Enjoy your day people.
