Last year the British Residents Society created an award called the Rauf Denktas Award (an inscribed silver tray) their aim is to present this award each year to a Turkish Cypriot for outstanding achievement to the British expat community.

This year the BRS committee elected to present this award to Tulips/Help Those With Cancer Association at their AGM held at the Pia Bella Hotel, Girne on Saturday 23.04.16. Raziye Kocaismail, Chairperson of Tulips/HTWCA proudly received the award from Mr Taner Erginel, last year's holder of the silver tray, to standing ovation from the BRS committee and members.

Why oh why will the TRNC Government not recognise the unflinching commitment Raziye offers to the whole community here? The number of medically qualified ministers here should hang their heads in shame. Successive Ministers of Health have promised oncology support but delivered nothing. Well done Raziye, very well deserved. Come on CT publish a damning report on the ineptitude of government - I'll not hold my breath.

Every year the government promise to help her but deliver nothing- without the continuous generosity of the public and the efforts from the fund raising volunteers the association would fold - it's an absolute disgrace.

Raziye is inspirational and at long last has received the recognition she richly deserves.
