The Orchid Walk

The 8km Orchid Walk, in aid of Cancer treatment and prevention, took place yesterday (Sunday) between Tatlisu and Kaplica. The weather was perfect and there was a good turnout from the local population. Although there have always been lots of expat walkers on past Orchid Walks, this year the number of expats taking part was very small (less than a dozen). Is it because there was not enough publicity for the event, or was it too far to travel for those who live West of Girne?

Both. However, being that we live within 8 kms of Tatlisu and we were aware of the triathlon yesterday, we had no idea of the walk event.

Good question and it's great to see the locals getting involved.

I maybe wrong but I didn't read or hear much about this event so it could well be the reason for the shortage of Brits.

Incidentley although this year's Fun Run was the best to date the number of walkers and runners were down compared to previous years.April is also a very popular month to hold major charity events.....Fun Run.Dog Show and The Orchid Walk.

Does anyone have any details about this year's charity walk? I heard it mentioned on the radio a week or so ago but nothing since.
Thank you.

There is an orchids walk on Sunday 11th March.
Tickets are available at Deniz plaza (think that's correct) in Girne. Dependent where you are coaches depart from various venues to take you to starting point Kozankoy? Finish. Karsiyaka.
Coach leaves GAU at 8.30.
I have seen posters in various places. Lemar. Telsim

Thank you. I will go to Lemar and check the posters but I'm surprised it's not publicised more. Hopefully there will be coaches from East side.

Coaches I believe are from GAU. Then also lefkosa. Famagusta and Guzelyurt. If I remember correctly. obviously leaving at different times. Tickets are 35 lira.

If a couple of friends hadn't posted it on Facebook don't think I'd have really taken notice of the poster. It doesn't really stand out in my opinion. It's basically a light pink on a white background .
