I was told by a usually reliable source that yesterday agreement was reached on the price of water from Turkey. It will be sipplied to the various belediye at 1,5tl per ton and the belediye will charge the consumer 5tl per ton.. I don't suppose for 1 second that the belediye will differentiate between their current sources and that from Turkey, so it looks like there will be a price hike soon for all of us.

Can anybody confirm this news?

Not all Belediyesis are signing up for it so I would just wait and see.

the price for all the water work is approx 1,5 billion dollar, which is financedd for 20 years ??
the capacity is 75 million tons per year = in 20 years 1,5 billion tons.
so, without interest rates, maintenance, electricity for pumps and so on, a ton comes to 1 dolllar.
the dollar is today at 2,90 lira, so finally we all have to pay more then 5 lira. i heart 7-8.

I hope then they will stop giving x amount of units in the standing charge or lower like Girne to 5 units.

Economics is about supply and demand. If something is scarce then it is usually expensive, if plentiful then cheaper. In the long term the water will be a blessing, just might be back to front for a while if you get my flow.

I recently moved house in the UK, my monthly water bill is about £50 including sewerage charge but my combined gas and electricity is only £70 per month, it doesn't make sense. What are the monthly charges in Cyprus?

My water bill is £24.60 month since I moved to a meter it was £49 before based on rateable value, £54 month gas and electric

I believe in the UK minimum wage is a lot higher than 1860tl a month therefore one can not realistically compare service costs.

Fair point Snd1966, but in 2006 I was paying around 105.00 per month Water rates in the UK. OK I know this includes water collection etc from your roof area and guttering etc. That was probably about a 5% of my net earnings.

But based on a Water bill here of say even 50 TL per month here it is still better value. Realistically a family here should be able to manage with 5 ton per month I would have thought. So I think good value.

A family using only 5 ton per month! In your dreams. Obviously, there are seasonal variations, but we are a family of 3 adults. Forgetting pool usage (higher in the summer), we are currently on 57 litres per week drinking water and 4 ton per week washing, garden watering etc. We are diligent about minimising water usage. Our drinking water cost is 1.5 TL per 19 litre bottle (self-service collection, filling and delivery) and 11 TL per ton via tanker delivered house water. Our weekly bill (currently) is, therefore, 47.5 TL. This will rise in the summer with more frequent showers (no bath) after daily use of the pool and exercise. If you can run a family home water bill on 50 TL a month, please advise how it is possible. If you have a pool, the water costs will increase dramatically, especially so in the period May - Oct.

5 Ton per month for a family? Is that a family of 1? Average shower time = 10 minutes. Flow rate for shower @ 12 ltrs per minute = 120 ltrs per shower. 1 shower per day = 30 showers (average) per month. 30 X 120 = 3600 ltrs. 3600 ltrs = 3.53 tons Per person!!! Family of 4 = 14.12 tons.

I guess that if you are a family of 4, only shower every three days, wash your clothes by hand in the same water you use to wash your dishes (or eat out for every meal), limit yourself to 1 cup of tea a day and never water your garden or wash your car you could "Scrape" by on 5 ton per month - but you may not have many friends and summer would be quite a challenge for you - lol.

UK figures work out to 450 litres per day per person on average, that would be 13500 litres or 13.17 ton per 30 days - that takes into account all use of water from washing to flushing!!! Suggest that your estimate of 5 ton per month per family out here in Cyprus is a little short - lol.

Why would you run your shower constantly for 10 minutes ? In a climate where you need to save water,you would normally soak your self , turn off lather up and rinse off. approx 4 minutes water.

Pool does not come into the equation this is a luxury item .

OK, then just for a family of 4 people showering everyday - unless of course in a climate where you need to save water and just smell - you would still use 5.68 ton! Now, how often would you flush your loo? How often would you eat and wash up your dish's? How often - in a climate where you need to save water - would you change your underwear and then wash them out? Agreed that a pool is a luxury item and will not fit into the equation but get real, just admit that 5 ton a month for a family is not even close to realistic and leave it at that.

Average daily usage for a family of 4 = 450 litres/day. That is equal to 164 cubic metres annually. That is 13.66 tonnes per month.Based on usage in UK.

|I disagree, our villa is kept like a show home. We are impeccably clean. I am over the top about cleanliness. But there are ways of saving water.

I would never not flush a loo, When an agent came to view our property recently he said how do we keep it so clean inc. our terraces etc. Too many people take water and electricity etc. for granted.

However you try to dress it up our water is excellent value. We live in Baspianr (Spring head) . Our water is drinkable but we buy water for drinking, but I use tap water for all cooking.

I did not include drinking water in my estimate because most people buy that in containers. In the UK millions of people do not drink the mains water they insist on bottled for consumption. In comparison to the UK for me to run a house this size and a pool I would be looking at outgoings of a minimum 350,00 stg per month (inc. rates).

We have had water 24/7 for 8 years. So i reckon approx 50 TL per month for water is very good value.

water usage is down to the individual, when we first moved to our village house we used less than 2 ton a month due to us having a gravity fed system, since changed to pressurised we use about 4 or 5 ton a month.

1 white wash, 2 colour washes and 1 bedding wash a week. Dishwasher on 2 times. Shower is used on average 4 times a day Out at work all day

Eh? Not in my rather long experience. The vast majority (imho) drink tap water as a matter of course. Mains water is just as good as bottled water.

I agree, I'm with Southern Water and drink it all the time. Of course if your out and about for the day I buy a bottle of water. Probably going to hear now, that different regions taste different.

Never bought any bottled water (apart from 'firewater'!) in the UK......

I always drank tap water in the UK, But when I was shown the difference of a glass of mains water filtered compared to Unfiltered it was amazing. As far back as 1998 it was estimated 27% of the UK population would not drink water directly from the tap.
