Safe Mail Delivery?

Hello,

Would you say it was safe to have mail posted here from UK. IE: bank cards, passports etc. I have read you are only able to hire a post box at the start of January, is this still correct?

Thank you for your replies.

Unanswerable question really. I have a P.O. Box in Girne and my mail "sometimes" arrives there. I also have a house address and any mail sent to this "Normally" arrives by the Catalkoy postman. If there is a parcel for me in the Catalkoy post office the postman will let me know so I can pick it up. I have bank cards sent to a friend in the UK as one bank will send them overseas and one will not send them. Nationwide will send them but Lloyds will not! My friend then sends them to either the P.O. Box or to my house address but ALL of them have arrived without fail. The same can not be said about normal mail or parcels. Parcels from China/Hong Kong always seem to arrive but parcels from the UK more often than not just vanish into thin air. I can say that I have never lost any mail/parcels that have been sent from either the USA or from Germany.

It is a bit hit and miss with all mail but it is getting better.

Fully support waddo. Best chance of mail getting through is via a PO Box in the RoC (Nicosia).

Still awaiting a parcel posted in December 2015. The mail here is very unpredictable. If mail is posted with a tracking number from the UK it will normally arrive but you do take a chance with the normal post. Anything important to post to the UK I post in the South and it arrives in 3/4 days.

We have PO box in Karaoglanoglu and in general it is very reliable now that I have persuaded people to use our Post Code. Having said that I wouldn't trust it for a passport and normally not for bank cards (I did once but not direct from a bank, who refused because You live in Turkey)!!!

Yes, variable! DHL sends some of our credit cards but Lloyds has to be sent to our son in U.K.
As to getting a post box, try! If someone dies or moves then one becomes available, so it is not always a beginning of the year job. Ours certainly wa snot, but that is a while ago.

As to parcels, well mine have got lost from U.K to the south, so I don't think one can generalise. Thieves (if there be any) do not respect countries!

And yes, it is getting better, far better or maybe you need to move to that already overcrowded place called Hope!

I would add tha tin my experience things can get lost anywhere in the world. My passport got lost once in a London post office so........................

Good luck with your decision.

Surely for a passport you would use DHL or similar anyway.

Best to use DHL its tracked all the way and only takes about 5 days from the UK. Last week I needed to send business documents to India and they took 6 days. Tracked every part of the way right down to the person who signed for it in Mumbai. The agent now is The Hire Shop in Catalkoy 0533 993 2614.

Agree DHL if it's expensive, urgent and important. But not, surely, for basic mail? The DHL handling charge is not cheap.
