Hoping some one can help !!
Our friend has booked a surprise holiday (with flight and 1 month appt separate). He has booked accom with Airbnb and has had terrible problems with the details of the appt. The owner is Russian and speak hardly any English and so far they have had , between them 108 emails !!!!!
All he has had confirmed is that the address is " Sahil Sokak in Alsancak" and 7/12. He had been told "Hamiltkoy - Girne- Alsancak - Lapta " !!!!!!!! When we asked him to double double check - it was Alsancak !!!!!!
He cannot order a taxi/car hire until he knows the directions and this is proving problematic due to the language issue !
The appt is a new build with sea/mountain views. Please if anyone knows this address can you shed some light. He is now scared that it may be a scam as Airbnb has had recent bad publicity.
Help hopefully !!!

I would suggest that someone contacts the Municipality Office s in Alsancak and maybe even have sight of a map, Maybe even get a photocopy of a map that can be given to any taxi driver.

At least we can be thankful that these days there ARE street names.

Sahil means 'Beach' so I'm guessing it's one of the roads leading to or running alongside the beach in Alsancak...

I looked on the map of Alsancak and could not find it, and googled it to be told it could not be found, so maybe a new new one. That is why I think the Belediye offce is the safest bet.

Get him to ask the Russian to take photos of the route and the appartment

Has your friend contacted Airbnb direct? Might be worth contacting them rather than the owner to see if they can sort it out, after all they are getting commission on the booking so make them work for it.

I also seem to remember the coast road, i.e. the main road from Karsiyaki to Esentepe and beyond was referred to as Sahil Sokak. Not that it helps any.

Perhaps you could post the link to the advert which may have some photos that someone will recognise.

Thanks everyone - we have found it. It is the road going down to the sea (nearly opposite The Olive Press). He is relieved that it does exist !!!!

From that description, it sounds like the road down the side of Club Simena Hotel that leads to "Monamour Night Club/Olive Press Bar" that (on google maps) seem to share the same postion...
Coming from Girne, the preceding road is Sardunya Sokak that leads to Sardunya Bay, and the following road is Sahinlar Sokak, which has an apartment block complex (Citrus Gardens), on which there are one or two Russians....

That is a long way (relatively speaking) from the Olive Press so I think you are wrong.

Is there anyone who could visit this apartment to confirm that it exists and is rented out through airbnb? Does this Russian live in NC, if so could brianc's wife speak with him (over their mobile if necessary) to confirm and thus put ifonly's mind at rest? That would be really good I think.

As I said, according to Google maps, they appear to share the same position....

Hi all - we are going down to where we think it is to check it out for him. He has now had some directions (the Russian owner has tried to write it out in English - bless her) so we will go over the weekend. It sounds as if it is very near the Olive Press.
