Burglary Alsancak, string of Burglaries recently.

Hi,

I want to give you all a heads up that we had our house broken into last night and we were told by the police that there are many going on recently, the people only take cash and jewelry items and are being very considered in their approach targeting only one house in an area before moving to the next with roughly 3-4 days in between each one. We popped out for roughly 2 hours and came back to a house with all the drawers open and a window forced open.

They are thought to be two men from England who were previously arrested and imprisoned for 8 years and were recently released and deported but have since gone to the south side and somehow are crossing back to target properties before leaving - hence only taking smaller items/cash.

We have never suffered this before in our lives and never expected to have such an issue here, the land where you can leave your car running and go in the bank for 15 minutes; where you park your car in a car-park and give your keys over.....but we have this scum trying to ruin the peace here.

Don't be complacent with your security and risk your house being targeted, we lost a lot of our valuable possessions and now have to spend money securing our house to prevent a repeat attack.

Regards

Thanks for the information. So sorry to hear it's happened to you. The police seem to know who they are looking for. Did they say they were English ?

Not nice knowing someone has intruded your personal space and gone through your belongings.
Really sorry to hear this and thank you for warning others.

I just spoke with my wife to confirm and the Police only said they believed they were coming from the South side, we saw photos of the suspects and I thought they look distinctly English. They also drive around in a rent-a-car and wear smart clothes to blend in with the tourists.

I wanted to post so that anyone reading, that still leaves windows/doors unlocked can realize that there is now someone who will seek to take advantage. Please pass this information on to anyone you know in this area so they can take precautions.

As a side point they also took mine and my wife's English driving license/Turkish driving license, ID cards, Residency permit basically every piece of ID we had (didn't find our passports) and we could not find this purse thrown in any bin in the area or anywhere.

I don't know if this was intentional for some kind of fraud purposes but I'm sure you can imagine that the prospect of being targeted for identity theft or fraud really is unnerving.

The perpetrators are not a desperate man and son trying to feed the family, various evidence (which I'll not post publicly) links them to other recent incidences and these are people that know exactly what they are doing. They found a secret drawer on a dresser that I did not even know existed, they wore gloves and had a crow-bar with them. These are career criminals.

There are many departments of the police involved with this, we had 10+ different officers at our property today, forensics, detectives, undercovers up and down the road. They have a lot of information on them and they will not get away with this behavior, there is not a chance, in the mean-time everyone must not make it easy for them.

If the people involved are reading this, enjoy what you have taken but you will see it is not worth the pain you will endure as karma later in your life. One day you will have a heart and you will despise yourself.

If the police have photographs of the suspects then it's a case of distributing them through the community. I see that in the uK that some suspects are shown on Facebook. I know a Chief Inspector in the CID at Kyrenia. I will pop in to see him to see if we can publish photographs of these despicable villains. You may consider broaching the subject with your investigating officers.name and shame.

Thank you for your comments above.

I just wrote a huge post about what happened yesterday, the suspect returned to the area, there was a full scale man hunt and he managed to disappear, he has been caught on 3 CCTV cameras.

However, when I pressed submit the cloudflare anti-ddos screen appeared and did not post it, but deleted it - this is extremely frustrating as it is important information, I am in a rush right now and I will now have to spend another 20 minutes to write it all out again.

If the admin sees this, cloudflare anti-ddos is a very amateur way to prevent these kind of attacks and is clearly disruptive to the use of the forum. If you actually need to protect the site against ddos attacks you need to refresh the server ip and point the DNS to a reverse proxy, then change the mail server from the standard so the server IP cannot be resolved from it. If someone wanted to circumvent this cloudflare protection it is a piece of cake, you are just frustrating your members.

I will try to post it later, but there are significant updates, also I was informed yesterday that my house was number 20 that this person was linked to.

Thanks for your post. Obvioisly the information is important and I can understand your frustration when you post only to have it deleted.

I have contacted the forum owner and other moderators to make them aware. I am not technical enough to know if there is an easy solution to stop this happening but your issue has been highlighted.

If I am about to post something which has taken a while to write up, I will preview first and then take copy and if the post is rejected/deleted will then paste it onto another post.

I have an even easier solution. I type my post in Word and then copy and paste it into the reply form. If Kibcom loses it then I just copy and paste again.

Kyrenia police say the suspects are from Estonia in Latvia. Not English. Matter is being dealt with at Nicosia central.
This sort of information on KiB Kom is great and thank you for the post.it gives us the heads up.

"caught on 3 CCTV cameras"

Post the CCTV stills as soon as possible and help get this thief out of the TRNC.

Wot.

I did not mean to become frustrated earlier so apologies if I came across poorly in highlighting the issue, I'll try to rewrite it now.

Yesterday we noticed someone strange walking up the street where we live, looking into the gardens of other houses, my wife immediately thought he was strange. We turned around and went back to our house and called the police.

I began to follow him from a distance of about 100m but just as I started to follow him a "police car" pulled up and I explained we believe this is the person who had broken into our house, for some reason he did not know the details and I explained it to him and told him to pick him up - he told me he was not police but a fireman and I had to wait for the police. I went off after him to see where he went as I knew the police were already on the way and he took off jogging (our road is a very steep hill, no one randomly jogs while on it).

I start to jog after him as he turns the corner, I catch up and turn the corner expecting to see him but he isn't there, I go round the next corner and from there I can see 250-300m along the road to the next corner...he isn't there either. I can't quite believe what I'm seeing but assume he must have ran a portion of this road to get so far ahead. I start running to get to the next corner which will bring me onto another 250m of road that I can see up, I get there and hes not there either. I stop a car coming the other way and ask if they saw someone further up the road to which they said no....he has vanished.

At this point the police arrive, incredible response time of what must have been about 5 minutes and it was the head investigator - I told them he was ahead of me but I lost him and they drove on up the road knowing his description.

Immediately the road was flooded with police and police cars, even locals joined in, people on ATVs and we were all searching for this man on both sides of the ravine - we were telling everyone this guys description everywhere, everyone was on the look out for him. I even went into the ravine which was a stupid idea in hindsight as I got lost and cut up.

After 4hrs of this man hunt it was concluded that he had gotten away, but he was caught on CCTV, the fact he managed to disappear like that almost confirms without question that he was responsible. His arrogance to return to the scene of the crime so brazenly.

DESCRIPTION:-
1.) About 18-21 years old, light brown blond hair, European looking, fair skinned with a slight tan, about 5 foot 8inches tall.
2.) Wore a red Manchester United T shirt, knee length blue/black shorts.
3.) Walked very confidently, swinging his arms like he owned the place, but slightly unusual looking walk.
4.) Thinly built but an unhealthy looking face, slightly chubbier cheeks than you'd expect of his build.

Tell everyone you know of this description, if you see someone matching this description in your area or anywhere for that matter do not hesitate to contact the police. He is very, very high priority as I was informed my house was number 20.

I was originally told not to post any of the photos publicly, so apologies but I cannot at this time.

Edit: Just saw jackverns post, I'm proud to say the change in suspect was a result of yesterdays incident, I'm almost certain with the help of everyone they will be caught.

Really sorry to hear about your experience - and so pleased you have posted all this information on the forum.
Roughly where abouts in Alsancak are you (no need for exact address), Lapta end? Yesiltepe area? Further up the mountain?
