I know the crossing at Beyarmudu are very hot on checking and will confiscate anything over the allowance. I'm not a smoker either but have seen and heard of it happening to others. If they smell smoke when they stop the car, i.e. a smoker, they usually check the car and baggage.

come_on_aylin is spot on at Beyarmudu albeit the staff there are SBA, not Greek Cypriot. Both SBA crossing points are hot on cigarette and fake goods.

Why not just buy some at Larnaca? Not as cheap as here but cheaper than the UK and you can take 3200 back

I have now found out that she actually bought them at Larnaca Airport on the way in and only has about 100 left so between her and hubby it should not be a problem.
PS it is Beyarmudu they will be going through which is the crossing we always use and have been checked on many an occasion even though we never take cigarettes or alcohol with us.
Thanks for all the responses.

If cigarettes are bought in the South and then taken back there is no problem. The border staff can tell from the packet were they were bought. I have walked over at the Ledra Street crossing and bought cigarettes to pack in my hold luggage. I was asked at the Metahan crossing if I had cigarettes but just showed my receipt and was waved through.

Becker what might appear pointless to you was of use to myself and I thank all those who responded in a helpful way unlike your inarticulate manner.

Exceed the allowance and you will loose them and risk punishment, maybe miss a flight.

Friends taking visitors to Larnaka at week end were stopped by GC customs after crossing at Metehan. Emptied car and searched cases. Fortunately they had nothing but dirty washing and had given themselves plenty of time before flight!!! But certainly brings it home that random searches do happen so not worth the risk of exceeding allowances which can be vague when crossing to RoC.

lulu, just be aware the social media, including Kibkom, is subject to monitoring. Encouragement of criminality is a no no.

...and remember that you are displaying your real name on your profile page.

You can possibly look forward to a 'full cavity search' the next time that you cross the Green Line!
