Has car tax been abolished????

A friend of a friend is due to renew his car tax. Someone said not to do it as car tax is due to be abolished, or may have been already. Petrol seems to have gone up recently, which may lead one to suspect the law has now been passed. Has it?????

I was told it's still in the pipeline to be introduced later in the year.

Have to imagine it will be introduced a year early, and applied 'pro-rata'

I would like to say ask at the vehicle tax office, but maybe I'm just being facetious.

I was reliable advised that it has been abolished by Detas, (the current VP) only a couple of weeks ago, with immediate effect.

Last news item I saw was Mr D was putting this forward for discussion, especially what the calculation will be of additional tax per litre. No way has it been passed into law. There will be uproar when, or if, it does because tens of thousands of motorists will have to start paying "road tax" that they have never bothered paying in the past.

I imagine prices have started to rise again at the pump because the price of oil has been rising again.

I spoke with Trevor Hughes, the Sigorta Insurance agent, as he is usually well informed on these matters and he said that they were still discussing it and that no decision had been taken. So I will be off to the tax office in a couple of days - not much to pay anyway, as I have a small petrol automatic.

It is the building complex just before the Girne General Hospital (coming from the Pia Bella area). Walk to the the building in the far left of the car park, through the entrance hall and through doors to the left, usually a queue to give you a clue.

So all the dolmus drivers held a big protest in Girne town centre on Wednesdy morning.

Once again the government has failed the "think outside the box".

Yes - tax on motor fuel will catch all the drivers who currently do not tax their vehicles, but the bigger picture is that it will ultimately effect the price of all goods and services, as the prices will rise in line with the increase in the price of fuel. The result will be a large hike in the general cost of living for everyone.

What good news!!!!!

A cynic might think that the government will put up fuel prices in anticipation of the new tax regime, then change their minds, giving a short term boost to their coffers. Surely not!

Well are they going ahead with the scheme or not? Its quite silly. Everybody will just go and fill up from the Greek side. Except for the British ofcourse since they're not allowed
