Interesting how one reads things differently. I do't read this atall positive for Turkish Cypriots and I wonder how others read his statement.s I still feel that the TC's are to fit in with the GC's requests, and the inference is that when the TC's accept the sensible GC's requests, we will all live happily ever after. (type of scenario). But as I say, we all read and hear things differently.

What do others 'hear' in this statement.

In order to have peace both communities clearly need to compromise and be sensitive the the others' fears. Being insensitive to the other'e needs does not serve peace but division.

Marion's I have to agree that the statement does not suggest in anyway that the GC side should compromise. Rather the reverse.

"...any demands that are not in line with what the Greek Cypriot side can accept...";
"...to understand the sensitivities of the Greek Cypriots who need to be satisfied without restrictions of their own rights..."
Yes, if this is a true and accurate reporting of his speech, I think that his stance is perfectly clear and unambiguous...... plenty of "compromise" there....

Kibris Postasi-The paper writes that the above agreement had been announced by the leaders on 27th July, 2015 and that the diplomatic sources were surprised by the statement made by President Anastasiades after Friday’s meeting, despite the fact that during the meeting, discussions were held “within the framework of the reality that together with the property’s first owner, the current users rights will also be taken into consideration”.

Commenting on the statement made by President Anastasiades after the meeting that “it has currently been clarified that the property owner has the first say”, the diplomatic sources said: “No decision in this direction was taken. Such an issue was not even discussed in that meeting. We find it strange that Anastasiades is trying to create such an impression”.

The paper argues that the fact that President Anastasiades reiterated his “old unilateral position which is outside the framework of the joint understanding reached on 27 July 2015” is considered to be “surprising, untimely and wrong”.

Lets start with the statement of the President, is it available? I suspect this paper is against the peace agreement and is trying their best to muddy the water.

The President was reported as saying (I assume in translation):
""Evaluating some realities properly does not mean succumbing to any demands that are not in line with what the Greek Cypriot side can accept", he stressed."
This seems to imply that he thinks that inconvenient "realities" i.e.facts, should not be a bar to GC demands. The trouble with "facts" is that they don't disappear simply by being ignored.
