This is such a worth while charity, for unless you go back to the Uk, you will need them and they do their work for nothing, from dealing with the morgue, being with you to identify the body before burial, taking you every step of the way through the funeral and keeping the cemetery beautiful. The only charge is for the funeral, plot and paperwork.

Im sorry but i think the £1000 charge for the funeral is a bit steap as at present there is so much debris around my family member's grave we cannot even get to it ( if has been the same for a few months now). And as for the the name plaque, a piece of white plastic with black marker pen on it is disgraceful.

Well Madeincyprus i can't comment on your particular problem but I think the cemetry committee do a brilliant job. As has been said these people are completely unpaid and without them to guide foreigners like most of us through the paperwork we would be in deep trouble at a time when we don't need it.
Harry Fellowes and his colleagues do a great job in difficult circumstances. I lost a very good friend here last year and I was much impressed with the way they took over and dealt with the official stuff. The actual cemetry looks excellent and I'm not sure how much better they could be. It's a shame that they can't leave their donation boxes out other than when there is a funeral but that is of course because of the scrotes who steal from them given half a chance.

Yes im sure they all do a great job. But i for one was not given any assistance with any paperwork. Took me 5 weeks in total and several trips to Lefkosa to get it all done. Suppose im just a bit upset that my loved ones final trip was in an unlined wodden box in the back of a transit van and then her grave is marked with a plactic sign with black marker pen on it. Personally i found that to be disrespectful. But as i say only my personnel opinion.

Bereavement can being or all kinds of un fair criticism and guilt and regrets and much more. As One who had been on both sides of the funeral fence I have to say that I cannot fault the cemetery committee. The cost v is fair; we don't have undertakers here; no proper tombstone may be erected for a year which causes people to compare to uk. Don't. This is cyprus and most organising do the best they can and in my view the cemetery committee give 300% of themselves.
And of course any fund raising could be insurance for your own future! !!
If anyone has genuine complaints I am sure the C.C will answer them.
Meanwhile I wish I could go to the b quiz but I know nothing! On the other hand perhaps they would like me to pay to stay away! ?

Having had to use the services of the Cemetery committee too I also found them to be amazingly professional, kind and caring when I needed them. Did you ask for assistance? as whenever I did Harry had all the right answers. I'm sorry you appear to have struggled to sort things out.
The cost is very fair considering all that they need to do to ensure our loved ones are buried in a respectful way. As Marion points out this is Cyprus! and we cannot expect the routine of funerals as performed in the UK where the costs are also considerably higher, not to mention the cost to repatriate a body in the first place.
The only thing that bothered me was not to have the body 'laid' out, that was not an option that I was aware of so I accepted it. I have since heard there is a lady who would do that, English style. At the end of the day though I know the funeral was just what my husband would have wanted. We chose to live on this island and I for one will be perfectly happy to be buried there too!
As to the plots, once the ground has been dug and filled in the soil needs to settle which is why it is advised not to put any lasting memorial on the grave for 18 months if that is what you want to do. The new part of the cemetery will be landscaped as soon as they have sufficient funds to do so hence the Black Olive's offer to help to raise some funds.
Fingers crossed there will be a good turn out for this worthwhile cause.
Ps Marion you can come with me! I am no good at quizzes either but I will be going x
