Just been into Girne for a walkabout and a coffee, In 18 years of holidaying / living here, we have never known the town centre to be this quiet. Despite it being a Bank Holiday most of the shops are open but there is hardly anybody about. Given that the Celebrations have also been cancelled, it must be worrying for the bars, shops and restaurants. Such a shame.

Wow. At least it makes the roads more passable for those of us who do want to go out (she says selfishly).

I know so many people who were looking forward to the fly past etc, but I guess they have just stayed around their pools with disappointment.

i have noticed in the last few weeks that it has been really quite in girne. Can remember it being this quite last summer.

There seems to be the normal number of holidaymakers up and down the Lapta strip and the popular venues there seem busy judging by the number of cars parked outside. Maybe they are sunseekers and not shoppers.

less 40% in turkey, so also here we have problems...
turkish customers stay in all inclusive casinos incl 24/7 service..

no russians, due to aircraft incident, no british due to turkey issues as eg, istanbul bombings, and the general near east position close to syria.
all other nationalities more or less the same...

kibsolar 1999 , I would be interested where you get your Info, true some British are avoiding flying via Turkey , so settle for Larnaca flights , for the Hotel only bookings ,Guest's that normally fly into Turkey are flying here

Tourism is down ??, Credible source please , because by my Figures it's 20% up

well, i did get info from hotel owners and the shop keepers in kyrenia which told me that this year is a crap year.
maybe your numbers are incl all the tourist-workers from turkey and the other ones are hidden in the casinos..?

I 've been in tourism for 15 years here in Girne, and yes tourism is down between 20-30 % and possibly more.
The number of English tourist has dropped dramatically. normally our business is 60-70% British, this year it would be no more then 15-20 % of these british tourists we have found that they have either visited before or have holiday homes or family here. Tour operators have cancelled charter flights from the UK and others have closed all together.
If it wasn't for the Dutch, Swedes, Norwegians and Danish there wouldn't be any tourism at all. There have been a handful of tourist from the middle east but they normally stay in the hotels. The Tourist here at the moment mostly arrived before lasts weeks problems in Turkey, we are all now waiting to see how much tourism will drop again next week.
I have already heard of car hire company's having cancelations had and a few of our friends who own smaller hotels have also had cancelations.

I'm not disputing the points mentioned above, but.....
A number of our usual visitors have chosen other destinations this year, mainly due to the price of air fares. Not once have they mentioned the problems.
I spoke to a Dutch man yesterday, the cost of his fights and hotel is far cheaper than any flights that can be obtained from Stansted to Ercan.

I agree my wife and I love the TRNC but is not cheap to get to now and other destinations like Spain are cheap as chips,also I think a lot of Brits are holding back to see what Brexit will bring

They have priced themselves out of the market. Just not competitive enough. With fear over Brexit, people are looking for value for money and that can't be found for holidays in the TRNC. Even villa rentals are not competitive. I am one of the many that would have loved to go to see family and friends but found so many better deals it was wiped off my list of destinations.

As the renter of a villa in the TRNC, this is currently our worst season for a number of years. There are far too many uncertainties at home and abroad and increasing cost of air flights from the UK is not helping. However, post-Brexit, enquiries are starting to pick up again when it was found that world did not actually end! On the brighter side, advance bookings for 2017 are looking quite good.
