new water meter costs

Hello fellow Kibkom users. You will have read on another post about my disquiet at the Mayor of Esentepe's proposal on charges for the supply, fitting and water cost per tonne. I hope to put together a table showing costs of such items per each belidiye (already installed and to be done) and if there are different costs if you live in the city/town/village or outside in a more rural environment. Could I ask, therefore, for Kibkom posters to provide me with such information for their individual case please? I can then populate the table and use it later, together with my formal letter of complaint, to the Interior Minister. Thank you in advance for your help. It matters not if information gets duplicated by different posters, I'll sort that out. tomsteel.

tomsteel, I wish you luck in your request, more luck than I have had in my request over permanent residency - people are very, very cagey about what they will admit too on this forum - lol. I am in Catalkoy and have the old clanky water meter that counts air as water - not that we have had much of either for the last two months - so have no answer for you yet.

But next week I will go down and ask what is happening here and what any known prices are. Have you managed to collect the data already disclosed about water meter cost on other threads yet? If not I will have a search around for you.

Infrastructure originally installed by builder (no additional cost). Price per tonne 3TL with no standing charge. There was actually an initial charge of around 240TL when the smart meters were installed the first time we paid for water credit. The Belediye staff were unable to say exactly what this was for but there was a lot of confusion surrounding water charges at the outset and they eventually brought in the 3TL flat rate as they weren't able to explain it

This is not relevant to new smart meters, just 'background'.

I live in Alsancak, and they haven't got around to smart water meters yet - at least, not down my road!

- Actually they haven't got around to delivering water for the last week either, but that's another story

We pay around 4 TL per month Meter Rental, and the price per ton of water starts at 50 Kurus, but escalates rapidly as the tonnage increases - see attachment...

Tom.

As you know we live in the village .

Our connection charge 7 years ago was 240 TL and last year we paid 370 TL for the meter.

Price per tonne is just under 3tl including vat.

Best of luck.

I would also add that there is no minimum monthly charge at Lapta although I think the minimum amount of credit is 30TL (10 tonnes) but this lasts as long as it lasts.

Not as yet, I've been letting sleeping dogs lie...

I will ask, the next time that I go and harangue them tho'

It's worth mentioning that the situation in Lapta is a great improvement over what it was before Smart Meters were introduced - under the old system, they used to be charged for 10 tons of water per month, whether they used it or not - which was iniquitous, and did absolutely nothing to encourage water conservation...

So far I have received responses from Kibkomers for Esentepe, Lapta and Tatlisu. Alsancak not yet fitted. Beyarmudu info provided by a very close Cypriot friend. Anybody else with details please? I now have the list of belediye and am populating the data provided by your good selves. If any other reader wishes to have a copy, please PM me and I'll forward it.

Below you will find Tom's table which you can download as a 'pdf' - it should automatically open using the free Adobe software...

I will upload new versions (which will be identified by a six figure 'date code' e.g. 050816 for the current version) as Tom receives more data from forum members.

If you have any difficulty in opening or reading the pdf, please contact me by pm, or email keithcaley@yahoo.com

I don't think that prices per ton can be compared at the present time as they will all rise as the Turkish water comes online. The figure quoted for Esenteppe is the proposed figure for Turkish water - the other figures are all for current local supplies.

JBA, the prices are as given by users of the smart meters - they are not mine and not old supply costs.

The actual cost per tonne of the new Turkish water aside.

Can anyone yet clarify if those of us already with smart meters and already connected to the mains supply, are we also to be subjected to these additional infrastructure charges?

guru, good point. The whole topic is fraught with self-interpretation by individual belideyis and those working within them. Hence my attempt to table all charges,

by Keithcaley
guru, we can only publish the data supplied by forum members.

Would it be possible for you to ask your own Belediye what charges you will be subject to - and then let Tom know the result? - complete with details of your location, and whether there are any differences in charges for 'in village vs outside village' or Ex-pat vs Turkish Cypriot'.

That seems to be the only way that a full picture will emerge...

Keith we are in Esentepe but we don't live there full time, we are UK based and only get out there three times a year... sadly So I'm not in a position to ask the Belediye, hence my question about whether these infrastructure charges are for new installations only or whether they apply to everyone.

Guru, as it is Esentepe Belediye that Tom will be 'putting to the question' , your answer should be forthcoming once Tom has got enough data together to be confident enough of his facts to be able to Quiz the Mayor!

You do rather get the feeling that they just pull a figure out of the air, and bandy it about to see whether anyone will object...

Re: new water meter costs

This is 'Cost of water' rather than 'Cost of Meter', but it throws an interesting light on the Esentepe Mayor's pricing policy...
CTD 0608161.jpg
It appears that he views the new water arrangements simply as an opportunity to make an unrestricted amount of money...

Buy at 2.30TL per ton, and sell at 9TL per Ton.

Nice work if you can get (away with) it

Just had an update from a Turtle Bay owner currently in the UK. The maintenance company there has stated the cost at the complex will be 5.5 YTL per tonne. No details were given on meter and infrastructure costings, though. This information has been sought and confirmation will be sought at Esentepe Belediye next week.

A comment on Lapta entry in the table.

The minimum 10 tonne per month disappeared with installation of the new meters and now there is no minimum - that is not clear.

JBA - thanks, I'll update. However, is there a minimum amount of money you can pay, i.e. - 30 YTL?

Have been quoted by Esenteppe. Belideyesi to connect to mains
Connection Tl2000
Meter Tl1700
Total Tl3700 inclusive of taxes

So to connect a pipe approx 30metres Tl2000 to the site feeder pipe.
However they are not responsible for the integrity of the site infrastructure.
So any leaks will be the site/ individual responsibility.

Turtle Bay Village owners paid 400.2 YTL in April last year for a new/smart meter and 300YTL at beginning of June last year for infrastructure/pipe.
Apparently there will be an announcement tomorrow from the management company about what further charges they/the mayor want to put on.
I will update when facts are known

UPDATE. In a letter received from Resco ( turtle bay management co ) The charges will be 1000ytl for meter... all owners on TBV paid 400.2 YTL in June last year for their smart meters, pre pay type using a top up card. in addition pay 2200ytl minus 300ytl previously paid in June last year. In addition to this a 100 stg "deposit" must be paid to cover pipe bursts etc. The water meters paid for already ( 400.2 ytl ) I assume are the same as needed now??.

so to conclude cost will be 3200ytl plus 100 stg.

goldfish, plus KDA @ 16% = 4K+. Write to the Girne Interior Ministry Officer. I did and received a reply yesterday, which I need to get officially translated but my Cypriot neighbour stated the letter will not allow Esentepe Belediye to inflate prices not agreed by the Council of Ministers. Complain also to the Mayor - he'll get sick and tired of complaints.

The location for the Interior Ministry in Lefkosa is the same building used for annual/bi-annual registration for your 'visitor' passport visa stamp. I have no idea about appointment making , but his PA speaks good English and was really helpful when I delivered my letter there. Still no PM or email received.
The Girne office is next to the State Hospital.

Published in Cyprus Today. 'Each of the affected property owners will have to fork out 1,000 TL plus KDV (VAT) for a new "smart" meter and 2,200 TL plus KDV for "infrastructure of piping and excavation-filling." They will also have to pay £100 deposit to cover repairs to burst pipes and other 'similar situations'. The connections are expected to be completed by New Year. Water rates have also been confirmed as ranging from 4TL - 6TL per tonne, depending on usage'.

The 4th price change to my knowledge. KDV is 16 per cent.

Have read about the water situation in Esentepe in today C2D and it reads like the worst possible horror story. If the mayor gets his way, then people who can't come up the 1,000tl's he is demanding, will be devoid of water from anywhere. He can't do that for heavens sake, it's like starving a town to death. Please someone. tell me I misunderstood the article!!

Re: new water meter costs

No, you did not misunderstand. I have attempted to ascertain a legal view from members whether what he is demanding is a criminal offence (extortion). How can he deprive people of a basic human need if they cannot afford his 4700+ YTL demand, before water actually arrives at your home? Can anybody answer?

Its certainly morally indefensible and its got to be against every law in this cockamamy country. As you say, to deprive the population of water for heavens sake is a punishment of biblical proportions.
