Is there anywhere that does a particularly good Kleftico?

Erols in Ozankoy on a Wednesday evening. Lamb in the well at Denizkizi on a Sunday.

I can second 'Lamb in the well'!

Tervetulua or the Kybele, Bellapais. The best two I know.

Kozan,above Karsiyaka in the mountain,view to die for. Need to pre- book for Sunday. Well that's the way it was a few months ago when we last ate there. Kleftiko very,very good. My opinion of course.

Sirin Yali on the sea at Karsiyaka does lamb tandir which is slow cooked shoulder of lamb in the style of lamb in the well. The only downside is that it is not cooked with potatoes but served with the ubiquitous chip!

Although it is now 2 or so years since I last went (doctor's ban on red meat) I always thought that the cafe in Korucam had the best kleftico anywhere - and that includes Fast Food cafe in Alsancak which is also brilliant.

Side Note:
Korucam is the Maronite village between Camlibel and Sadrazamkoy and is well worth a visit anyway if only to see the magnificant St. Georges Church (which is dedicated as a cathedral I believe). Maronites are affiliated to the Catholic Church and ultimately accept the authority of the pope, but with differences the local priest told me with a smile as his wife served tea and biscuits (true - I met him in the church and he invited me home with him).

Erols, Wednesday nights, definitely the best and I have tried lots, including those mentioned. Marias (Yorgos) in Korucam, very good, lamb in the well also very good, but that is not Kleftico...I think it is maybe thief's kebab. Erols is always spot on, but you do have to book the day before, and it depends how many bookings they get. Always the leg/shin part, not the neck, which you get in some places.

Silver Rocks offers great Kleftico on Sundays, highly recommend!

I agree with mrsgee. Errols is the best and most authentic I have had. I must admit I have not had Kleftico at all the venues mentioned but Errols is the pick of the places I have eaten Kleftico.

Have to agree with all those who have given Erol's the thumbs up.

Mouth watering Kleftico cooked in their clay oven and potatoes cooked alongside the meat.

Their steaks are pretty good too, had both T-bone and sirloin there and no complaints.

The staff and especially Caroline are always very attentive to he customers, a great roof garden restaurant and great to chill there.

Ooooo.....don't spread the news too much about Erols.....we might not get a table. We go pretty much every week. Have to say it is the most consistently good restaurant we have ever been to over here and have lived here for over 7 years now. Erol cooks the Kleftico......so he told us......Caroline is not allowed....lol.....it is the absolute best. If I can't have Kleftico then Fillet Steak, the chef is so good, it is always cooked perfectly for me, medium rare....and hubby always, always has Lamb chops, often with a kidney thrown in.......if you want entertainment....it doesn't happen, but good food does!

I know this is an old thread but I was wondering if anyone could recommend a restaurant to the west of Girne that cooks a good kleftico and on what day please.

Unless its opened again, Erol's has been closed a long time.

But it was open in 2016 - lol, always good to check the date/year of posts!

We had the best kleftiko ever at Cano's Green Palace in Karsiyaka when we were last there in June/July & it wasn't at all expensive. Might be advisable to ring ahead & check availability.

In Korucam/Kormakitis village. Yorgos restaurant run by his daughter Maria and family. Closed on Mondays

Hurma just past the Acapulco. Needs to be ordered beforehand.

I think kleftico can be a bit hit and miss with regard to the amount of FAT on the bone. In the past I:ve been known to have more on my plate than I started off with. Serving kleftico with chips rather than potatoes is a cop out on behalf of the restaurant.

Tolga's Sular restaurant in Karsiyaka does fantastic Kleftiko every Sunday. It is really good and always a full lamb shank.
