Hi, I thought opposite the Dome as well but went there today and there are no watch shops, just handbags. Used to be there I'm sure.

The one opposite the dome is actually opposite the taxi park next to it and still there. As regards how long they last I have had one for 6 years and still keeps perfect time. But the best and cheapest are in the street leading to the walk over crossing at Ledra st. But go to the one on the right as the one opposite is 30 euros dearer for the same watch.

When is a fake not a fake. I've bought watches over the years in Girne and had to replace the battery in two weeks and what with heat and humidity they have turned out to be dreadful (serves me right for being prepared to buy a fake. If you can't afford the real thing, then go without. You wouldn't buy a fake BMW would you? Having said that I have bought a "fake" handbag, albeit for 3 times the asking price in Girne, but in Antalya and to this day no-one, even people who will only buy the real thing, can tell that its a fake.

Didn't know they did Irish Auctions in Girne.... Why did you bid up the seller?

I was told that there is yet another category: 'Genuine Fakes'
These are produced in the Factories which produce the Genuine original items for the Brand-Holders, when there is spare inventory left over at the end of a production run.
They carry on producing products until all of the materials are used up, and these products are then shipped out via a different distribution network.
The inference being, that factories will deliberately order excess inventory, in order to capitalise on the Brand Holder's name, and advertising...

It seems the rest of the post builds up to this reading "...can't tell its a fake" so I'm not sure what to take from the post in the end!
However, as someone that stupidly had more designer items than non-designer items in their wardrobe before moving out here, I can tell you with certainty that for some items there is literally no telling the difference between the real and the fake.
Additionally, I have a few fake watches, Rolex/Breitling/Omega etc and I can tell you again with certainty that if you inspect the watch properly then there is almost zero difference between them.
Just about the only way that the professionals can check them is on the magnification on some of the watch variants (that little square that magnifies the date), it should be 2.5x etc on the real thing and the fake ones can be wrong.
To the original poster in my opinion the good fake watch shop is the cheap watch shop, they will tell you all sorts of rubbish about good fake/bad fake but the reality is that it is on a case by case basis. You must inspect the watch individually, for small marks/alignment issues/misprints/smudges/miss-gluings etc etc and after that you have your "genuine fake".
I took my relatives to get one last year and of 5 they picked up only 1 was perfect, even the owner was a little taken aback at how I was finding the tiny little errors, but if you look carefully you will find them!
