A UK couple have been arrested /charged and bailed at Girne courts for theft of a purse that was left which they took and emptied and threw away the emptied purse but everything is on CCTV of the shop on the border of Lapta/Karsiyaka-- you know them!!!!!
They apparently have a property in Karsiyaka
Deportation is to good .
This was reported in the Turkish newspapers but not in Cyprus Today?

I am not ashamed to be a Brit even if a compatriot did nick a purse. I might even be proud enough of the British tradition to declare that everyone guilty of stealing should face an appropriate punishment. I might also, possibly, ask if the perpetrators felt forced into stealing because they were penniless following the, unpunished, theft of all their assets by lawyers, developers and bank, or whether they were merely just spivs.
On the other hand, if I were so proud to be a Brit why am I living here? Answers on a €500 note to ..........

Sorry, but I can't for the life of me think why you should assume I or anyone else should know them and why all the explanation marks?

Perhaps they are famous people? Well it looks like they will become so anyway. A criminal is a criminal no matter where they come from, let the courts deal with it and leave it at that.

I don't know them, I live on the east side
I am not ashamed to be a Brit, I know 99.99999999999999 % of Brits who live in TRNC if they found a wallet or purse would hand it in and would certainly never steal one.
Only takes one bad apple.......................................

Our next door neigbour should be ashamed to be a Brit.
Having successfully taken our developer to court our neighbour received his title deeds-we covered his legal costs and when asked to make a contribution he said he would consider it.
To-date -not even a thank you.

Art, take him to court to recover your costs.

The original post makes the fundamental mistake of presuming that a person charged with an offence is guilty. The couple in this case vehemently deny any intent to steal. They would admit to handling the situation very foolishly, but that is not a criminal offence.

If the original post is correct then why would they take out the contents & throw away the empty purse? Surely they would have handed the intact purse into the police if they had no criminal intent?

Oh well, someone knows who they are i.e stephen 48. Couldn't care less myself to be honest. A thief is a thief is a thief. Assuming they are guilty that is!

I would caution against guesswork or accusation unless all the full facts are known.
The perpetrators may be guilty of an offence, then again they may not.
Sometimes we can all come to the wrong conclusion, post something and then look
just a bit silly. Probably better to watch from a distance for now.

They were apparently very unlucky as the CCTV had only been repaired that morning after an attempted break-in the night before.
I am also told by someone who knows the owner of the purse that it was taken from inside her handbag which she left on the counter while she fetched something heavy. Nobody asked around to see if someone had lost a purse.

Tom Steel.
Thanks for the advice Tom - this may be option which I'm thinking about.Having spent 7 years and 43 Court appearances plus
spending a considerable sum of money I was hoping he would appreciate the effort we had made on his behalf (plus the inconvenience) and offer to make a contribution.
Sadly three months have gone by without even a thank you,in addition he claims to be a Christian with Christian values.
Brit behaving badly I'm afraid .

As they have only been charged so far, Cyprus Today are probably giving them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they will publish details if/when they are convicted.

What, and loose the limited circulation that they already have - more likely to put the price up in the hopes people will buy it to find out the story.

for those of you who obviously know the details, do you know if the owner got her purse returned with the contents?

After viewing the CCTV footage the police recovered the purse and its contents (minus the cash) from where it had been discarded. Having traced the couple through their car registration, the police went to their house and the man came down the drive to meet them proffering the money.
Apparently, the owner had just been to the bank to collect her son's allowance (he is at university overseas) but she hadn't had the chance to send it yet.

Is it some sort of insinuation?

I think GaryandShirley (whoever they are) are having a pop at me and my previous postings concerning our next door neighbour and their antics.
I've obviously for some reason ruffled their feathers but fortunately I don't live in a green house,I don't throw stones and I don't post veiled messages
Perhaps they should enter the debate in a proper manner and give everyone their reasons for posting .
Alternatively they can always contact me to establish the facts.

Given that they have posted their remark on a public forum which can be read by everyone in the entire world, I do think that they should either explain, or apologise and remove their comment...

I'm sorry if you have taken my comment as some sort of insinuation, it was not meant to be, all I meant was having seen many topics on this forum there is normally another side to a story. I don't know the particulars in this case neither do I want to get involved so this will be my last post on this topic. Sorry if I caused any offence.

You haven't caused me any offence and thanks for the explanation
My neighbour is the one creating the issue and yes you are right in saying "normally there is always two sides to every story.
In this instance it is not the case and the facts are outlined in my first post.
It's not about the money it's about not even being thanked for delivering their title deeds.
Speaks volumes about who they are.

The details of the alleged crime have been reported in Cyprus Today this week. Although the reported events (if accurate) appear to be quite damning, the alleged culprit maintains her innocence and will get her day in court.

tomstell, I thought Brits were taken on to the first ferry out of the new docks, rather than waste time and money in the pokey.

The last one I know of who did time was deported across the crossing point at Metahan, easier and quicker than paying for a ferry!
