Beware! Burglars about in Ozankoy again.

Friends arrived at their villa on Sunday night from the UK.
Last night they went out for a meal and when they got back they discovered they had been visited by burglars.
£70 cash and the battery for a hedge trimmer was taken. Entry appears to have been through an open window behind the shutters.
The area is off the road leading to the Rafters turn, when coming from the main road past the old bowling alley, that is now a warehouse and offices.
Be aware and keep an eye out in that area for any strangers lurking about.

Thanks for the warning, we are not to far from there, quite worrying! This Island has certainly changed in the last few years and NOT for the better.

Sadly I have to say I agree with you Mollie the cat. Police are there at the moment.

We also had a theft from Ozankoy recently but it was tradesmen in the house and I'm not allowed to say who as post deleted as we had no actual proof...All I can say is trust no-one and keep one eye on god!

Hi jax47,

My sister had a similar theft.
Only, the tradesman was working at another property.
She left her house for a few minutes, returned, money gone (sterling)
Door closed, but not locked.
Police called, suspect searched,money found.
Claimed he had drawn it from ATM.
No charges.

Is this part of the reason that so many expats seem to be leaving ?

I wouldn't think so - not if they are leaving to go back to the UK at any rate...

Have you seen what the crime rate is like in the UK compared to here?

Navek did the police not check the transactions on his account it would have shown if he had withdrawn money from an ATM??

You are right Keith the crime rate in the UK is high and I suspect it will only get worse as the police seem to respond less and less to a lot different crimes.

Yes, and it all seems to boil down to funding, leaving the police to concentrate on major crime, or ones that are quick and easy to sort out.

The level of 'petty crime' seems to be unchecked, and yet it is this which causes so much distress to people going about their daily lives. At least the Police here do seem (for the most part) to be able to catch burglars, even if they are useless at Financial and Property scams.
