...........the time in question being we are finding it more and more difficult to lift water bottles and place them safely on to the cooler (I'm sure there are many Kibcomers have the same problem) There has been talk about coolers suitable for smaller water containers and coolers whereby the bottle goes into the bottom of the machine and is pumped up. Unfortunately try as I may none of the shops that I have visited don't stock either and some have no idea at all what I am talking about. Any assistance in pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

There's one on the Alsancak coast road called DOMART - it's on the right hand side, heading towards Girne.
They do save the lifting, but you lose the storage space underneath

KC, my present/newish Blomberg doesn't have storage space underneath but has larger reservoirs for hot and cold apparently. Called in the Blomberg shop last week and no luck. Will try the others asap. In a way I would rather have a smaller version (if there is such a thing) because we would still have to lift the large bottles into the house from the garage.

sophie, they will (well, the ones that I've got will) take a full sized bottle, but the 'wand' that fits into the top of the bottle is adjustable, so you can use smaller ones as well.

Thanks Keith, will have a quick butchers at my wand. However I've had two pm's warning me off the cooler that take bottles in the bottom. They have had trouble with the pump. Anyone else have that problem?

They can be a problem if there is a power cut or low electricity voltage, the man in the shop advised us against one.
My Cypriot neighbour keeps the bottle on the floor and has a hand pump fitting on it.

We have a plumbed-in system that has no bottle. Water comes in under the sink and into a 5 litre reservoir. From there it goes into a filter system (also under the sink). From there it goes by microbore piping to a tap over the sink (filtered but uncooled water) and by piping behind the cupboards and along the skirting to the original watercooler, which has the bottle replaced by a float chamber. The man comes every 12 months to replace the filters. Result is clean filtered water at the sink for irons, kettles, cooking, etc, and unlimited cooled water from the original water cooler. They have a similar system for customers in Ikea.
PM me if you need more details and 'no', I have no connection to the supplier other than as a satisfied customer who does not have to bother with 19 litre water bottles anymore.

Thanks PapaBravo, but I have to say we only drink the machine bottled water (very cold) during the summer months or to make tea and coffee via the hot water reservoir. At all other times we use the water straight from the mains so Im sure your system is great but not for us. As to water being hand pumped, thats also fine but not cold in summer or hot in winter, so that doesn't work for us. A bit concerned about the pumped machine now. They are not cheap are they (more than double the normal machines), so that leave KC's method, i.e. adaptable top to take the smaller bottles and I suspect ours isn't.

Just to add another question to the equation. ?.
Does anyone know a water seller / supermarket which supplies the 'stubby' (half size?) bottles?
I mean the ones that are the same diameter as the normal ones, with the same sized 'neck', just shorter (less height).
Theses would fit a standard water cooler, but be easier to lift.

Erdener sells small bottles at the back of the store by the meat counter not sure if the neck is same size a standard 19ltr bottles ?

Yes I'm sure Erdener had these stubby bottles about half size of the normal ones I was surprised to see them. they was right in front of meat counter back of shop I'll check next time I venture forth but if you're there before me ask the Pakistani bloke in the Fruit and veg place he's pretty helpful.

Now thats what I call a sensible size and weight for people like us. If someone Lapta/Alsancak way would stock those then I think they would be inundated with customers, particularly if they fit the water coolers. How come the large water bottle photo has a handle. What make are those I wonder?

Sophie you need to build your muscles up a bit to tackle the large bottles !
Erdener had these half bottles (10ltr) today but they go very quick.

I explicitly refrain from commenting on (the size of) Sophie's muscles...
...she might decide to use them.... on me!

Have just been exercising to the music, pecks, abs and anything else that looks a bit flabby. Can't see any improvement yet. Maybe I'll have another go this afternoon!!
