Not a good experience

Following problems with faded, broken registration plates at MOT, I decided to invest in new plates. Went to the new car accessory shop near Baris Park in Girne. I chose the plates I wanted ( raised letters and numbers), no problem I was told. Wanted them slightly wider to fit more secure in bracket, no problem. '10 minutes' I was told. Went for a walk, came back 15 minutes later. Wrong plates fitted, not raised letters or numbers, wrong size, rear plate crooked, front plate separating from Perspex. Went in and complained, was told plates I wanted were fitted. The example I chose was still on the counter, the new plates were nothing like what I had asked for. Cyprus shrug, asked for old plates back, 'sorry old plates gone'. Again the Cyprus shrug. Complained, walked out, front plate fell off on way home. Fed up!!!!!!

Why didn't you ask for them to be redone with the correct design, then give them a pull to test if they were fitted securely?

Here it is better not to get frustrated just to tell them how to fix it, they will do it, I've never seen an incidence where if they didn't do something right and you point it out to them that they will not redo it.

And never ever ever leave them to do a job of any sort without supervision.

i am not 100% sure but i understand that raised letters on number plates are not legal. my husband has a taxi and it had raised number plates and police stopped him twice and said he had to get them changed. this may only apply to business vehicles but somehow i don't think so. before you go and get raised ones elsewhere i'd check with the police first.

It is the whole system that is wrong. On my last 2 "tests" the examiner never left his chair. I would imagine driving tests follow a similar pattern.

Bearing in mind that the MOT here isn't one as we understand it, I certainly would appreciate not having to drive all the way to Girne. At least we know it's the same guy issuing them whether you need to make the journey or not. I'm all for doing away with red tape
