Disabled Driver Parking Permits.

I do not know if the nice gentleman whom I met in the Şah car-park this morning, reads this board but if he does my thanks for the information he offered . I was a little taken aback since (1) I am unaccustomed to courtesy yet alone helpfulness from Brits in large cars and it took me by surprise! and (2) I was surprised and concerned that I had not heard of it before and that I have not noticed it in the paper nor seen it on this forum.

It seems to me that this is a matter that could be of considerable importance to many and I am breaking my vow not to post here (1) for the befit of those who need to know and (2) in case anyone else has further information.

Apparently it is now possible to get a car badge to enable disabled drivers to park in designated spaces and if these are not displayed a fine is imposed.

The kindly gentlemen said he had got his sticker from the Girne Belediye but did not know about others.

I was too slow witted to ask what evidence of disablement was needed to be presented in order to qualify for the sticker. I also wonder if there are disabled spaces near the Belediye - otherwise how are disabled people supposed to get there in the first place!

If anyone else has any further information about disabled parking - or indeed any other facilities for people with various disabilities - I should be very grateful if they would post it here.

Everyone please note that disability does not necessary mean confined to a wheel chair or on crutches... There are many disabilities that need help or facilities that are not immediately obvious to the uninitiated.
