Talk to the Lefkosa Blood Bank. In an emergency they will sometimes accept donations of other blood types but still give O+ to Kolan. It depends on their current shortages. 0392 228 5441 and extensions 1070 or 1071.

This morning when the call for blood for Roy went out, three of Kolan Girnes staff went to Girne State hospital unfortunately they could only take blood from 2 of them. The ambulance driver was too busy to go today but will go tomorrow morning when he comes off shift and we have one other going tomorrow morning. So I would love to say thank you to Mert, Pembegul, Naciye and Hayder not forgetting Charlie who is going in the morning. Get well soon Roy from all at Kolan Girne. xx

Think we have enough now for Roy but there is a man called Timothy Dawkins who is in the oncology unit in Lefkosa state hospital that you could donate your unit of blood to. I am sure the gentleman would be grateful for it.

Unfortunately blood IS still needed as Roy's situation has become more serious so if anyone can help please please go asap to Lefkosia State hospital to donate for Roy. Thank you

Wife attended Girne State Hospital at 0945 today to donate blood. No nurse, no interest, no further information. I accept the fact it was A Rh +ve, but it could have been used within the blood bank scheme. Does anybody have details of the Medical Ombudsman here in the TRNC or the Hospital Director, please? If the Girne Hospital blood acceptance performance does not dramatically improve, volunteers will cease to donate with potentially catastrophic
results.

I would like to thank each and everyone of you who either attended the hospital and gave a unit of blood and to the 8 people who are going this morning, 2 of which are in the forces here in North Cyprus. You are all stars and I am sure when Roy and his wife are over this difficult time they will thank you all themselves.

Chris

p.s For now we have enough blood but may need more next week so please put the word around and let me know anyone that is willing to donate, you can call me or text on 0533 884 5621. Or you can send me a message on facebook or here. Thank you in advance.

With respect to your wife Tom for offering to donate blood I believe the Girne Hospital only accepts donations Monday-Friday & the original request was for potential donors to go to Lefkosa anyway.
I think you will find, as we have on several occasions, that the Girne Hospital is absolutely brilliant at dealing with emergencies.
I find your agressive attitude puzzling to put it politely.

That's because my wife was asked to go there via another, separate phone call. She and numerous other potential donors have been messed about by the ineptitude of the staff there on numerous occasions. Her journey involves a 70 km round trip. You can puzzle all you like ozankoys, politely, I do not give a fig what you think. The emergency service has never been mentioned by me, so I fail to understand why you have raised it - unless it is to either demean or deflect from my view. I would suggest this topic between us is now closed!

I totally agree with tomsteel.

Girne blood bank lost me 3 donors recently with exactly the attitude he describes. It takes me ages to find O+ donors and my life depends on them and Girne don't give a damn. 2 of them went twice and the third went 3 times and they were just turned away with a shrug even though they were within the declared opening hours. These are people who don't know me who simply responded to my appeal on here because they wanted to help and I don't blame them for giving up.

One eventually went to Lefkosa but not everyone has the time or transport to go there.

Girne Blood Bank is wholly run by Girne hospital - any relationship with Lefkosa is mutual co-operation.

Lefkosa are in a completely different class but even they turned away a potential donor because they didn't recognise his anti-histamine medicine as safe (safe according to the NHS anyway).

But it is a dire situation and I spend many hours worrying about it - I need approximately 1 unit of blood per week to stay alive and occasional units of platelets. Lefkosa have been very good to me and I now have a debt to them of 16 units of blood - but I have to stop needing it myself before I can hope to start repaying that.

JBA, please be assured I'll do anything I can to shake up the Girne Blood Bank organisation to aid you in your life-threatening situation. Those posters who dislike my approach can get off their sofas and do something positive to improve the situation or they can fade away (being polite) as required by forum rules.

Hence my appeal for posters to send me details of to whom I can raise this issue to. So far, zilch!

Hi Nurseawful, Sadly my husband Timothy Dawkins passed away last Friday in Intensive care at Lefkosia. There where units of blood A+ and also platelets donated to him, which sadly he did not get in time. Don't know what happens I assume they will use it for the next person who needs them.
