Further to my other topic regarding Mad Ray, he underwent further surgery late last night and as a result we are looking to replace the blood that was used during the operation. At this moment I am unsure of the procedure involved in donating blood, but I am going to the hospital shortly so I will get more details then.
If you would be prepared to donate blood please leave a message here or ring me on 0533 862 4001.
thank you

You either contact Prue Lundy at BRS (fount of all knowledge regarding blood donorships) Or you and anyone (preferably 2 or 3) can go up to the blood donor department at Lefkosa, tell them that you wish to donate blood to a certain person. They will then check on the blood of the patient, check your blood for compatibility which does take a little time and then you can donate a pint. Obviously if he is a rare blood type then complications set it. If the patient is in a private hospital then you will take the blood yourself to the hospital. The system does work but its all a bit DIY. Likewise, if one of the people who volunteers to give blood turns out to be rare, they will be asked to give blood which will then go direct in the blood bank for use by someone else.

Contact the local ADA TV station (offices in Karaoglanoglu) who might put a call out on their nightly TRC local news. Likewise Cyprus Today (you must do it tomorrow) so they can get it into Saturdays paper for you.

Sophie, thanks for the advice. I have contacted ADA tv and we have also contacted Cyprus Today.
We have had offers from 4 people so far, but, for different reasons we have been unable to use their blood. Thank you to them for their efforts.
We are still looking for donors, for what appears to be a rare blood group.

If there is time and you are still not able to get donors, then ring both The Observer offices and The Star offices so that an appeal will go in both papers next Friday. You'll have to pester the police and the Army, they don't always react right away. Please also contact St. Andrews Church in Girne and ask that an appeal be read out at Sunday services. There could well be holiday makers who attend service but don't buy local papers. I'm sure Richard Frost the local Vicar will assist you.

I know you have written to me emine, and I have replied, but just had a thought. Why not get the appeal into the Turkish papers. I can try for Kibris Star (which is daily) and then try for others. I don't have all the contacts, but can get them. Send your response to the e mail address I have given, or via Kibkom e mail. and is there a deadline for this (not sure the word 'deadline' sounds good, but you know what I mean!

Emineden, your message was read out in church, but I don't know if there was a response. The lady sitting next to me would have donated but as she is recovering from a cancer scare and is on drugs, she had to decline. Sorry.

Keep faith that there are people who are the right gorup and CAN donate. I can't - I am just plain old ordinary sanguine stuff, but will keep up the appeal. Tell your friends... tell everybody, ........ . If nothing else it is this kind of situation which shows how people care and pull together.

Thanks everyone, we went to the main army camp at St Hilarion and asked for their help. They told us that one soldier had gone to Lefkosa to offer blood. They would continue to search for more donors.
Very nice and helpful.

Ray still remains in critical condition. Following yestedays article in the Cyprus Star I had a phone call from a potential donor and we are trying to arrange for her to visit the blood bank to donate. We still need to find another 6/7 pints of this rare blood.
A big thank you to Marions for the article.
