We have been quoted 900 tl for tonne of olive and carob. Though we are in Karsiyaka I am sure that the price will be about the same. The trick is finding someone fairly local to you for the delivery. If you find a really good price will you please share it with us? We are starting to think it might be a bit overpriced for us.

Blimey! I think somebody is profiteering big time... I've no objection to people earning a decent living but that it twice as much as last year....

Elsewhere (facebook) someone advertises 450tl for a truck load of wood (usually three tonnes) - okay maybe it's not olive and carob but we object to buying olive on the grounds that often the blighters are unlicensed and go around cutting down olive trees that don't belong to them illegally .....

We find citrus burns very well for half the price... and that's sustainable.

Have been quoted the following prices for a trailer load (whatever that is?) yesterday. If it is just 1 cubic ton then the price is crazy! If it is 2 cubic tons then the price is similar to what is being charged in the uk! If it is more than 2 cubic tons then starting to look reasonably priced.

Softwood (pine). 450tl
Mix of Acacia/Eucalyptus/citrus. 650tl
Olive. 900tl

Whilst we can't purchase our logs from another country it is always interesting to compare prices - UK Softwood - £50 per cubic mtr. UK hardwood £80 per cubic mtr. Deliveries are usually in a dumpy bag.

Olive is so expensive because there is not much of it. A full truckload of citrus cut to size and delivered to Tatlisu would be 550TL. For other areas between Karsiyaka and Catalkoy the price is 450TL telephone 0533 8470144

Approximately how much is in a ' full truckload' ? a small pick up truck would be about one ton, a large truck could be anything. Not intending any criticism just want to know how much wood I would get for 450-550tl.

Every supplier will be different but generally speaking you can expect to get 2 cubic mtrs/2 ton for 450-550 tl

It is an isuzu truck, very hard to give an exact weight because some wood weighs more than others but we have many many customers that come back year after year so i am sure you would be happy with the amount.

We have just taken delivery of a trailer full of logs.
The vehicle/load capacity was 3m long, 1.5 m wide and 35cm high. Equal to 1.57 mtrs square. Allow for loss just to air spaces, probably looking at 1 mtr square of wood.
Cost £450 tl for pine.

The above is probably the norm for all suppliers re volume and price, but if anyone know where they can get a better deal please let us forum users know.

Purely for information, not a comment on any previous posts, or an indication of what to expect: -

In Cyprus, a 'Forestry ton' is the amount of cut logs which will fit into a cube 1.1 metres on each side - this equals 1.331 cubic metres, or very slightly less than One and a Third cubic metres - obviously there will be a somewhat variable amount of empty space in there, but I'm told that that is the accepted standard. Whether it would, on average, actually weigh about 1 ton, I know not - and it would presumably depend on the density and type of wood involved anyway.

If any log sellers currently aspire to pay even lip service to the 'standard' then they probably use an old 1 ton water tank which is about a 1 metre cube (slightly more, allowing for air space, ballcock, etc) - so even they would be delivering around 25% less than the 'standard'.

The log man that I bought my wood from when I first came here used to take his vehicle to a weigh station (at the cement factory) before he delivered to me to show what weight he was delivering - he had a note of the vehicle's empty weight to help with the calculation. There would have been nothing to stop him taking wood out after visiting the weigh station of course, but if he was going to rob me, it seemed to be a needlessly involved way of going about it

He reckoned that most wood sellers' 'Tons' were probably in the region of 600Kg!

After seeing the volume that I get delivered from other log men, masquerading as '2 Tons' or whatever, I'm inclined to believe him...

Unfortunately, he is no longer in Cyprus, so nowadays, I have to make do with what I receive

I shouldn't imagine that any of the above will be of much use to anyone, it's rather arcane knowledge really, but as terms such as '2 tons' were being bandied about, I thought that you might like to know what a 'Forestry Ton' should look like

Acacia, that looks to be a 'typo' - is it meant to be £450 or 450 TL?
