Presume it's TL per ton as its similar to charges posted by some other Belediyesi.

Be cheap for us then - not had any water of any kind (apart from out of my well) for the past four days anyway! On a quick check back on the old water bills, we have had 88 tons of water through our mains pipes in the last 12 months!! Wonder if the standing charge will remain the same??

Last I heard from the payment guys was that he (the Mayor) had not intention of changing the meters - he operates on a "If it ain't broke then don't fix it" principle and likes to keep his staff (the water meter checkers) in work as well! The price that they told me for the "Turkish" water that he had decided upon was 4TL per ton but I guess he has been overruled by the Council of (need a new car) Ministers in the long run - lol.

Hopefully no new water meters. Met him a few times and have to say I like our mayor.

That's a big hike, we normally pay just over 25 TL for our 10 tons per month. So that will now be 45TL if you have to pay for a minimum of that. But at least we don't have the problems in Esentepe.

As it stands, we in the Esentepe area, who have tankered water pay TL15 per ton so Catalkoy you are on to a winner...good for you.

Got my bill today - 50TL 50Kurus for 8 tons plus all the other things - normally 25TL 10Kurus for 10 tons plus the bits.

Looked at our bill which is currently about 25TL per month, 12 TL is for water the rest is for other services, if we have to pay 45 TL per month just for water the new bill will be over 58 TL per month.
That is a massive hike

Is it now the case that we only get charged for what we use rather than having to pay for 10 tons whether you use it or not?

niceone - correct. Previously you paid for 10 ton and if you used it fine, if not then you still paid the same amount. From now on - or really from the 19th of this month when the new price came into effect - you pay for every ton you use from 1 to 1000. The difference is that you will pay 4.5 TL per ton for every ton of the first 10 tons. Before the new price you paid just over 1TL for every ton of the first 10 tons. Well at least that is the theory - lol. I will be able to prove it on my next bill as I have turned off my mains water (partly because I don't often get it anyway) and will run solely on my well till the next bill arrives - then I should be able to tell you if the Theory works in Practice, which is a very rare thing anywhere - lol.
Interestingly: On this months bill I am still charge the same amounts for both Health (Saglik Resmi) and Cleaning (Temizlik) but this time I am not paying the normal sum of 0.60TL KDV - in fact I have no charge for KDV this month at all???

being a 'dirty' person and using 4 to 6 unit this sounds good news for people who use less than the 10

Could it be that other municipalities are being influence by the actions of the mayor of Esentepe
with no justification for price increases ?

My concern is if we all have these massive water price increases and charges similar to Esentepe residents.( and it could happen )
Could the Same will happen if Turkey supplies the electricity ??
It's getting more concerning for me regarding the possibility of totally being reliant on Turkey supplying of utilities ??
Comments please ?

I think the difference between the electricity and the water prices will come down to the fact that the water prices were fixed from Turkey to the TRNC at 2.5TL per ton and then all the municipalities got in on the act and wanted to charge their own amount, this regardless of the agreement signed with Turkey that it would be a sole supplier in the TRNC that would set the overall price. As the municipalities will not be in any form of control of the electricity - too dangerous that - then the electricity should remain at its proposed price to the consumer of one third of the price the consumer pays at present. But you most always remember that this is Cyprus and the price of new cars always goes up!!!

madeincyprus - TRUE - Normal 10 ton water bill 25.10TL new water bill for same amount 50.50TL. What is strange????

If it's 4.5tl per tonnes, we are being told that it's now 70 for 10 tonnes. Would not mind but we do not have mains water, we get filled up from his well and spend at least 2 days a week with no water.

madeincyprus: I think your landlord is pulling a fast one on you and has been doing for some time, that is if all of your water comes from his well!!! If you read the first post in this thread, Posh copied the figures and statements from the Catalkoy Belediyesi Facebook page about the new cost of the Turkish water. As far as I can tell those figures are holding true according to the last bill I received. As I am not a Facebook user I can not confirm this information for you but have no doubt it will be correct. I would advise you to visit the Belediyesi and ask them for a list of the new prices (because you don't use Facebook either?) then take that to your landlord and ask him if he fills his well from the Turkish water supply. If, as I suspect, he is not using the Turkish water supply (mains water) at all and is simply charging you Belediyesi prices + for your water then ask him why he has put the price up when he is not paying anything (apart from pumping costs) in the first place.
Keep in mind it is always a dodgy thing when you rent to query costs and prices unless you have an ironclad rental agreement but to me it seems that your landlord has found a way to buy a new Merc on the new water costs!!
