Bouquets to Lapta Police; Brickbats to Turk Bank

Last Monday my husband went to withdraw TL950 from the Turk Bank ATM at Alsancak. The card came back but no money so my husband assumed the transaction had failed. Before he drove away, my husband saw another customer turn up, use the ATM and took off like a long dog. Luckily my husband noted his appearance because, when we were able to check our Travel Card balance later in the day, the TL950 had been taken out of our account. We told Turk Bank who got back to us later and told us money in-money out had matched, and offered no further action. We then wrote a letter to the Bank requesting the CCTV footage be checked, only to be told that we had to go to the police before any action would be taken. Lapta Police were brilliant - took our complaint seriously, treated my husband with great respect, promised action and - lo and behold - rang us at 7pm, six hours later, to tell us our money was waiting for us. What a huge relief! The police identified the person who'd next used the ATM from my husband's description and were able to recover the money intact - BUT our TL950 had popped out of the ATM when the next person used his bank card. So totally the fault of a malfunction in the Turk Bank ATM. We are really grateful to the Lapta Police for their efficiency, total respect to them, but the inertia and disinterest of the Turk Bank leaves a sour taste in our mouths. We won't be used Turk Bank ATM's again, obviously. Moral is, of course, if your money doesn't come out of the ATM, either notifiy the bank immediately or wait until the next person turns up to see what happens. But as this had not happened to us before, we had no idea the ATM had malfunctioned.
