That renewal time for passports was looming on the horizon >i hate this ten year thing
A week ago did the on line renewal in the UK so easy new passport back in a week
The photo bit is really easy you can do it at home with a digital camera
You take a picture of the passport subject 3/4 of the torso head and shoulders the passport site automatically crops the picture to a passport photo
Also the up dates by email and text verge on information overload brilliant service

Wanderer, If you did all this "on-line" why did you have to be in the UK to do it? Could you not do the same thing from anywhere "On-Line" in the world?
As a kind of elderly geek, just interested!!

Waddo
seems to be restricted to uk passports are couriered back not Royal Mail
On a bizarre note two passports input one after another
One had to be sent to Glasgow the other Belfast so two lots of postage costs
The Belfast one arrived a day later in Belfast but they processed it a day quicker than Glasgow

I am not too sure whether to re new my passport from here, early, due to the fact we need 6 months on it to travel to some countries, or do it when we go to the UK, the month it expires, by booking an appointment ( or whatever it is you do to get your passport quickly), does anyone know if there is there much of a difference cost wise, taking into account we are going to the UK anyway.
Thanks in advance
Sue.

The standard cost for a passport is £72.50 (add a tenner if you want the Post Office to check and send for you)
There are two faster services you can use, for £103 you can get a one week service, and for £128 you can go in person to the passport office and get your new on in four hours.
My wife and I renewed on a visit to England last April, we used the four hour service, and thought it was worth the extra money not to have to worry about postage and carriers. After all it only work out at a fiver extra per year doesn't it?
Also remember you can renew your passport at any time. We always renew early just in case, if you do this UKPO will add any 'unexpired' time on your old passport to the new one - up to a maximum of 9 months.

We used the 4 hour service to avoid any postal delays etc. as we were only in the U.K. For a couple of weeks. Worked perfectly but it is expensive.

We are just in the process of renewing my passport from Cyprus.
The cost is £102 this includes the return of the passport with DHL.
I forgot that the old passport had my old address in it, the passport office contacted me and asked for a utility bill so I sent a property tax bill with the new address. It took a week to arrive in Liverpool via registered post with tracking.
Just waiting for DHL to say they will delivery the new one.

Thank you all for your replies, Karmels, I didn't give it a thought about a change of address, something worth remembering. I think we will both do ours in the UK when we go, using the 4 hour service, it looks the most straightforward, and worth the extra cost.

The four hour service is only £25 more than renewing it and having sent by DHL to Cyprus.
Of course you have to be visiting to the UK in the first place....
