Now we have "Turkish water" i have changed from storage tank / pump to direct mains water, i was wondering if other homeowners would want it done the cost would be between 250 - 300 TL including all parts, each house will be different, This will pay for itself quite quickly as no more pump (electric) the water is pumped from the Belediyere, i have retained my tank and pump so if ever there was a mains leak and water shut off i can just switch back to it for a day or two
The parts consist of pipework, connections, regulator & gauge, on-off taps, If you feel it is something you would want done please call me on 0533 848 3939

Our water in Ozankoy is still on and off at the moment and looking at the state of the roads around lower Ozankoy I'm not sure that the water we do receive is Turkish or not so no changes to our system for some time and even then I feel that the small cost of pumping the water via our own pump would be far more benefit than relying on Turkish water to be on all the time. Well have to wait and see how things progress.

Our water pressure is nowhere good enough for this yet in Karsiyaka. Hopefully soon it will be.

We still have a tank on the roof which is fed by a gravitational feed pipe, this was put in by the builder 13 years ago.

Yes Paul only 65 tl for the regulator 50 tl to be fitted very simple job why pay more

The standing water in the lower tank will soon become sub-prime so what is the point in keeping it in the loop?

Point taken Groucho, you do not have to keep the tank, if you do then a very small cupful of chlorine in the water tank will surfice, then just run the pump up every few months to keep it ticking over

Not really, because it will vary, according to the way that your own domestic plumbing is arranged - there is no such thing as a 'standard set up' in TRNC!

fair enough, if anyone wants to respond, but you did ask for a step by step idiots guide, which by definition would need to be specific to a particular installation...

Hi Every one i have converted has been different, and a different price, as Keith has pointed out there is no standard set up here, i have taken as little as 1.5 hrs to do a job and as long as 3.5 hrs depending on the set up already there, if you want a quote for the job phone me on 0533 848 3939

Out of interest and just out of spite - I turned my mains water off when I received my last bill as the Catalkoy Belly put the water price up two days before the meter reading was taken and then charged me the new rate on the old water I had received, not nice but it is a money making venture after all. So out of spite I ran on my well for the next month and found that the new bill came to only 14.5TL with no water charge, this instead of 50.5TL for the normal deductions plus the cost of the 8 tons of water they managed to supply. Once the New Year came I got over it all and switched my mains water back on again, with a hey ho I have had my bit of fun now! Still waiting for any Turkish water to arrive down the pipes, in fact still waiting for any water to arrive!!

Then, because I have nothing better to do in this inclement bit of weather we are having, I thought I would just install a 5 ton tank and run the whole house and garden off that direct from the well and bu**er the belly. So I worked out the costs and guess what? The installation and new pipe work plus pump and press switch would come out just short of 3000TL BUT if the Belly supplied the water even at the new rates and I only used the normal 10 ton a month that I used to get - it would take me five and a half years to just break even!! Good exercise in not just throwing the money at the problem but thinking it all through first - well I enjoyed it anyway.

Just for the record, in case others are considering this, I did have paulc connect the incoming mains water direct to the house system today..
I live in Karsiyaka (near the football stadium) and the incoming mains pressure is 5 bar and we have water 24/7.
A pressure regulater was fitted in-line to reduce the pressure to 3 bar.
Relevant valves were fitted so that if we do have no mains water for any reason then I can simply open the one that will still allow water to be pumped from our 10 tonne underground tank using the existing water pump.

All in all a relatively simple and straightforward conversion carried out in a professional manner by Paul Conway.

It must be great to have a choice, we in lower Ozankoy are still awaiting the 24/7 Turkish Water, we still have many days without any.

Looks like Ozankoy is getting new water pipes red paint makings through the village.

Red paint is not for pipes - it's marking out the new one way system - lol. Good luck Ozankoy, when you get the Turkish water then us at Catalkoy should be next on the list!
