I would not want to be him in front of the Judgement seat! I am sure that my own judgement will be bad enough, but bearable, but his???????????As to the talk by Eddie Richardson, no one was forced to go. Personal choice and curiosity no doubt. But it has brought out some strong opinions from folk over here.

I believe in the Old Testament Cain said to God " I am not my brothers keeper "
Someone with more formal religous instruction will I hope correct me if I am wrong.

You are quite correct. And as to qualifications, I probably (am prepared to stand corrected) the most religiously qualified on the board. The BD after my name does not stand for Blooming Daft, as may be presupposed, but Batchelor of Divinity,l which I am proud to say I got as a grandmother and without A levels. I also did most of the work on an M.Th in Interfaith studies (islam, Judaism and Christianity), but just after a year of hard work my husband died and I ran away for 6 months, staying away 3 years so never did get to pick it up. Met up with Alan and, as they say, the rest is history. But having said I may well be the best qualified, that does not mean I know the most. I learned more questions than answers.
But whilst it is true that we are not our brother's keepers, not responsible for his (or sister's) sins, if we align ourselves to his morals/standards/ ethics etc, then it is likely that our sins will match his!

I've always thought that the most appropriate response to "I am not my brothers keeper" is: - "No, but you are his Brother!"

Agree Keith., It is probably something lost in translation. I must take a look at the Hebrew (which I have largely forgotten), What it doesn't spell out is that we are all connected and so in a sense we are everyone's brother and sister - that is why we have laws etc, - and we have a duty and a responsibility to them, JUST AS THEY have a duty and responsibility to others. But at the end of the day, I guess what really counts is that we ca\nnot be responsible for our brother's sions. as my old school song said 'Each as on his sole head, failure or succeeder'.
But interesting the comments in the Mail abut Mr Richardson - they are from one extreme to another. Things like 'he was a great boy to his mother' to 'good riddance' and other sentiments in between
It would have been interesting if Eddie Richardson's visit to this island had coincided with his brother's death - there might have been a lot more interesting questions.

Msg 4,
I agree with your statement however in this case Eddie Richardson WAS jailed for his crimes because he and his brother were a team.

I count myself fortunate that although born in the same place as Eddie Richardson (Camberwell - in my case Kings College hospital) I was raised on sound Sunday School stuff and told to keep away from naughty boys like the Richardsons. Just think if I did not have the sunday School training, and the strict code of ethics, I might have been mates with them.
Strange how life gets us to meet osme and not others, and I often wonder to what extent 'There but the grace of God go I' runs deeper than we imagine.
