Whilst trying to use the ATM this morning I finally noticed that HSBC have at last cured the problems with their ATM outside of Supreme supermarket at Catalkoy. In true Cypriot style they have used the perfect cure - they have removed it!!! You never know, maybe its gone mobile now so if anyone spots it on the back of a truck please let us know where it is - lol.

It was a Tardis and Dr Who wanted it back...

Re the subject of HSBC, someone told me that the main Girne branch had closed down, surely that isn't true?? Certainly I read some time ago that HSBC were considering closing some branches down but haven't heard anything since.

You shouldn't believe everything you are told or read. 'Someone' is talking tosh. HSBC are still trading in the TRNC.

Tomsteel, not outside Supreme they ain't - lol. I think the other ATM that was alongside the HSBC one has gone as well - maybe it was a gang thing!!!!

I see there is a new ATM in the far end of the Supreme supermarket car park. Also a Garanti ATM outside the new fur/leather shop.

Do you know if the new ATM or the Garanti ATM have sterling?

waddo, I think the HSBC ATM franchise is sub-contracted and not an HSBC 'banking' asset. I may well be mistaken though. However, does it really matter? The Supreme ATM has gone - hurray!

Yes Garanti ATM outside the new fur/leather shop gives sterling.

Garunti m/c gives Sterling. But also faces south like old HSBC one. So Will probably be a problem when it starts to get hot!!!

I think that all Garanti ATM dispense both Euro and GBP as well as TL. However you have to use the machine on the RHS of the two outside the main Garanti near Deniz Plaza. The LHS only dispenses TL. There is a brand spanking new Garanti ATM outside the Alpet garage in Alsancak. You never know HSBC might be going to update their machine in Supreme. Best thing to do is actually ask in the Bank. Lets face it, they are the first port of call.

Garanti ATM outside the new fur/leather shop dispensed Sterling in £20.00 notes this morning without problems. Easy parking directly outside the ATM - it is on the LHS on the way from Girne to Catalkoy - sadly it is true that it faces South and has the standard sun on the display problem that seems to be the norm for Northern Cyprus. I also found it to be slow and slightly worrying that it gave me the receipt and then displayed the message that the receipt was being printed for around 3 minutes before it carried on, spat out the card and then the cash as normal. As the sun was nice and bright on the display this morning if the heat caused it a problem now then later in the year it will be prone to failure. Very few vehicles at Ya Belesh but I think in the afternoons when the shoppers are out it may be difficult to find a parking space outside of the leather shop. It is still a good replacement for the Supreme HSBC ATM which was unpredictable at very best!!

Hi Waddo, does the Garanti ATM as discussed above have instructions in English?

ATM has instructions in English - just press the button - but the sun tends to make it hard to read at times.
