This evening(UK time) between 22:00 -22:45 BBC Radio 4 "The World Tonight" have discussed the talks and spoken to GC's & TC's
This programme will also been on Tuesday night to discuss again if you want to listen...this is the link for this evening, hope you can receive it.
I also put information on the News earlier on Monday but thought this should be on General first and moved later, hopefully that is OK.

I listened to a discussion with interviews at 4.30am on World News and Ive never heard such a load of biased twaddle. The only people from this side that were interviewed were 3 TC crossing the border who couldn't speak with any authority. However they interviewed GC politicians and analysts who needless to say came out with the usual stuff and demanded that the military leave the north with immediate affect. According to GC the only person who can solve the problem is Erdogan and no-one else. Whether or not I heard the full discussion I can't tell.

You can download the podcast or try again and listen to the one I am referring to..............

I didn't hear the one you are referring to where people were interviewed at the crossing, these people were interviewed in London.
Incidentally, back in 2004 after the talks failed, BBC rushed to Green Lanes in London and again interviewed both sides. It's a BBC thing they like snapshots! I did tape the conversation back then and sent it to a member on this forum who was leaving for NC to live. The person said were making a compilation of everything NC, but to this day never seen or heard anything from it as promised. Shame because we could have compared the conversations.

Thank you D for the link. Interesting listening.
The talks may or may not lead to a referendum and away we go again.
For a settlement there must be advantages for both sides. Whilst Turkish money flows into the Northern administration. I see now real drive from the indigenous TC. Furthermore the massive influx of Turkish mainlanders has essentially made the region a de facto Turkish state.
The ROC want land and property back or more likely compensation plus the Turks to leave.
The Turkish mainland administration is keeping cards close and with the massive financial and military investment I do not think for a moment that they will retire from the Island.
Peace has prevailed for over 40 years so in the scheme of things a settlement would be very nice and good for the politicians but is it achievable amongst far bigger and real middle eastern problems. I have serious doubt.
I suspect that we could see some degree of compromise. Perhaps Virosha will be opened up. Perhaps more cross border trading and cooperation will develop. Perhaps some money will emerge for compensation for material loss above and beyond the IPC. Perhaps levels of hatred and or intolerance will be diluted or die away.
If these things transpire then slowly but very slowly a new history of Cyprus will emerge. And then until the next invasion PEACE.
