? faulty electric meter

My electric bill and also the two neighbours next to me has nearly doubled this month. I know there has been an increase in price but its 20pc not nearly 100pc. On the bill my monthly electric consumption does not match up with meter reading. I went to kibtek (so did my neighbour)and they said there is nothing wrong with the meter . When I showed them the amount consumed didn't match the meter reading they said I had used more kilowatts than showed but there wasn't enough room on the paper bill to show it all. I asked if they could print out all my electric consumption for the month. They said it wasn't possible?? Is there anyone I can ask to come to check the actual meter?Kibtek said checking on the computer is enough. Thanks

Things may have changed , but a few years ago I had similar problems and it transpires that diagnostic equipment for checking meters does not exist here , I had a local Cypriot Electrician ( UK trained/ Qualified ) check and give a clean bill of health to the house wiring , pointing the problem to either being the mains connection and or the metre, after much persuasion, Kibtek sent their "technicians" ,who checked the meter, disconnected and reconnected the mains, Bingo !!

I had the same problem, and Kibtek refused to come out to check the metre, but after I kicked up a fuss, my bill miraculously halved, and stayed that way until I packed up and left the island.

Same problem here in Ozankoy... I nearly fainted at this months bill. It's just not possible to be so high.

kibtek are a law unto themselves they continuously and deliberately rip their consumers off (same as the water now) they know exactly what they're doing (with the knowledge of the TRNC government who do NOTHING ) and it will never be any different ripping people off is a national pastime on the island north and south. Why do you think so many have left and the island is in the state it's in nobody would put up with this level of extortion for long.

We have had a problem too. we pay all bills within a few days of getting them. When to pay Dec to Jan last week only to find that they had added another October and November bill to the account. Was told that i needed to pay that day or be cut off. Even though i had proof of payment for the last bills. Was simply told that i was billed wrong, no way in hell.

Same thing has just happened to us. We have all bank receipts for September, October and November. When bill came through on my phone for December, November was also added, with a note saying it was overdue. Went into Credit West, who confirmed November was also on their system and there was no option but to pay. Crooks, through and through. How many millions of tl do Government, and the Casinos owe them???? And we are expected to pay For November twice over. Makes me sick.

These posts are unnerving to say the least.

Meter readings cannot be deemed irrelevant (!), and no one should have to pay for their usage twice when one's bank can prove that payment has already been made.

As with the water problem in Esentepe, perhaps an ombudsman could be appointed to investigate these cases? Wonder if this is something the BRS could help with. It is extremely important, affects us all and will probably get worse if nothing is done.

kedikat and all
goto kibtek office and claim that you would like to install a solar (PV) electric system and for the application process you need a "consumption table" for the last 12 month (to determine the permitted maximum solar power to be installed)
may work only if electric meter is in your name. do not forget passport, just in case.

if you like, we can make you an offer for a solar system based on that info.

Why ask? I understand from Kibtek that the maximum permitted for residential property is a 5KW system (it is unlimited for business use), that is one that feeds back into the grid via the smart meter! Of course a system that feeds into battery storage may be different but I never asked about that. I think it is a great idea if you are just building now or have many years left, however, the overall price of 25+ year guaranteed solar panels that only drop 10% in the first ten years and 10% in the next ten years made it too expensive, at 12,000 euros, for us to consider doing it. Solar power is definatley the way to go but do it early!

As the thread is titled ?faulty electric meter, did you know that you can request a meter replacement from Kibtek if you think your meter is faulty - you have to pay them 96TL for this but if you feel sure it is the meter then it may be worth your while to ask about it!

waddo,
the regulations say: the max to be installed solar power (in kWp) is 5kWp for single phase connections, but, also is related to your energy consumption of the last 12 month. a very normal size is 3 - 5 kWp.
3 phase homes can install up to max 8kWp.

standart linear Performance degression for solar panels should stand at around 80% after 25 years. (our) good panels do 87% after 30 years.

and who the hell did want a 12.000 euros for a 5kWp system from you? thats robbery.
for cheap chinese stuff you pay even less..., but for good equipment max 8500 euro should be sufficient and then your calculations (eg, about your expected lifetime vs payback ...) look much different...
