Does anyone know the exact cost to register an iPhone 6? I have been given a secondhand one but don't see the point in paying an exorbitant amount to 'register' it in TRNC ??? I have seen the price of 2400tl quoted for an iPhone 7-but I don't know of anyone who has actually paid this amount ?

I don't think anyone can tell you how much duty you will pay. Go to Gumruk in Lefcosia the office is up stairs, they will give you the correct info before you register it.

Following excellent guidance on the B.R.A. website I've just done mine. Not a iPhone but a £100 Chinese thing. The duty was 60Tl. Was expecting to get ripped but not the case and the staff were very helpful.

I think they way the work is - 30 pct of the actual price to buy it - registered my samsung 7 edge and cost me 270 TL - the phone was bought last September and I registered it in December.

Things are looking up then (I think) Someone bought me a brand new Huawei at Christmas, fantastic phones and I love them. and cost far less than Samsung or the ubiquitous iPhone which I don'tlike at all. I was coming to the conclusion that I was going to have to ask them to get their money back if they could. Assuming the powers that be in Lefkosa are capable of obtaining correct valuations and don't resort to guesswork then I might go ahead.

Sophie,
In the customs office they have a list of phones and their price. Mine a Cubot wasn't listed so she Googled the price in Euros, Dollars and Stirling. As I was able to show her my Amazon history of the purchase she accepted that and added my phone details to her list.

I expect that was registering the sim-card Davedee. Now you have to register the phone unless it was bought here (in KKTC)

I have two (one for UK vodafone sim, which also works in TRNC, one has Telsim chip for local calls) - both last used over there in October, I've checked and mine are both OK.
Look here and scroll down about a third to "by Trevor Hughes" and he explains the procedure for checking....

I'm guessing that the "robot bit" is when you've ticked the little box and then a segmented picture or group of pictures appears?
If so, (because it's all in Turkish!) you have to guess which you have to click on - normally it's a theme of road signs, house numbers, store fronts etc. Once you've clicked on all pictures containing the "theme" object, it may present another set to select, or it may just allow you to click OK after the first lot (provided you have clicked on all the right ones!), and then you should get to where you want.

I have a 4 year old Motorola which I want to give to my husband to replace the even older Nokia of his which has gone to the Ethernet in the sky. When he goes into Turkcell to have his SIM card cut in order for it to fit the Motorola, surely he's not going to be sent to pay tax on my 4 year old purchased in a sale at Tescos.
