Credit where it's due

This morning my husband was attacked by a dog belonging to a neighbour, concerns have been raised many times about this dog with it's owner but she wasn't interested. The dog was on a lead but the owner was unable to control it as it went for my husband, knocking him to the floor and biting him on his arms and legs quite severely, when she eventually got hold of the dog she just went off without a word of apology or concern.
We went to the police station in Lapta and they could not have been more helpful, they took my husband to Lapta clinic and ensured that he was seen immediately and treated for his injuries. The staff at the clinic were also very helpful and concerned and couldn't do enough for us, they helped to make a very frightening incident less traumatic, thanks are due to all the people involved.
The police then took statements before sending us to the Belediyesi , there we were told that the dog was registered and up to date with it's vaccinations, we now have to wait for them to make a decision on the action to be taken, it's up to the Belediyesi and not the police.

Wow that is terrible, surely this should be a Police matter and not the Belediyesi,..locals as we know have "influence" in these places so anything could happen. That could easily have been a small child unable to defend itself the consequences could have been very different,
Hope you are both ok.

Trevor,
I find it strange that you automatically assume that the dog owner was a local.
No ware in Elizabeth’s posting did she say that the owner was a Turkish Cypriot.
With the registration & vaccinations up-to-date a large number of the members of this forum would think the owner was an English expat.

The owner is a Turkish Cypriot who is actually training to be a vet, when approached by several concerned people she just says that the dog doesn't like people.
None of that detracts from the fact that the police and medical staff were very helpful and supportive and we are grateful for that.

That has been suggested to her but she says it's cruel to the dog, yet obviously keeping it chained up twenty three hours a day isn't.

Attacking and biting your other half isnt cruel by her reckoning then? It beggars belief!

>>> she just went off without a word of apology or concern.
In addition to obviously needing a career change that lady requires lessons as to decent human behaviour.
I do hope that some of those 'concerned neighbours' will also find their way to the Belediyesi offices.
tt.

Putting two and two together plus some info from another source I now realize that I know the people involved and the dog concerned, from an independent point of view the person attacked is a very quiet decent person the dog is mental as it is chained up in a yard 23 hours a day and constantly barks the owner is a very rude and arrogant women whose mantra is "I will do as I please"
I hope the belidere do something but don,t hold your breath.

We're still waiting to hear from the Belediyesi but sadly I don't hold out much hope, if nothing is done then when it happens to someone else on their head be it. My husband had just stepped out of our own garden when he was attacked, we're now terrified of leaving the house, he's 72 and had a heart attack a few months ago, this is worry we don't need.
We have tried our best to live here as part of the community, showing concern and respect for our neighbours, but enough is enough, we're out of here as soon as ever we can, totally disallusioned with the place and the people I'm afraid.

I am very sorry that this has happened to your husband it must be very worrying for you both. If you have no joy with the Belediye in say 14 days then I would suggest you, and perhaps your neighbours, speak with your Muhtar. Good luck.

Your muhtar may well support you. However, if the local hierarchy (mayor) influenced view prevails and opposes you - forget any just resolution. What a nightmare!

Very sorry to hear of this dreadful incident , hope your husband recovers well and that some action is taken. But I am not sure it will. Our neighbours horrible trained to kill guard dogs (god knows why she needs them) , that are also left alone for months on end with just some one calling to feed them. got into our land savaged one our cats to death attacked me.
Lapta sent the uniform staff out to us , they showed no interest what so ever and the dogs are still there 3 years down the line. I do hope you have more success.

As a dog owner and walker who lives in Lapta, it would be helpful to me if I knew whereabouts this attack took place and the type of dog so I can keep a look out and try to avoid. So sorry about the attack, unacceptable in every way and hope the wounds are healing.
