Out walking the dogs this morning on the lower mountain slopes above Catalkoy. Have seen numerous fresh nests hanging in the trees! Watch out this year as I do not think the recent spraying has had much effect at all.

If anyone knows what we can use to spray these nests now please post! Anyone who uses facebook and can post on the Belediye site please let them know as well.

They seem to get earlier every year. When they did some spraying around the Golf Club, we had torrential rain the following day so it was a waste of time. You would have thought someone would have checked the weather forecast before embarking on such an exercise but evidently not. Thanks for the warning. I've been keeping my eyes open while dog walking but haven't seen any as yet but I'm sure I will.

Absolutely right, they were spraying around our place only a matter of 2 or 3 hours before it rained, then again within hours after it stopped when everything was soaked. Total waste of time I suspect.

Don't know if it will do any good but I sprayed 27 nests (then ran out) with Sertex-Fluid this morning - the one with the red label and every sort of bug listed on it. Will have a look in a day or two and see if anything has happened before I resort to getting the branch loppers out and lighting the dustbin ready for them - lol. No actual caterpillars as yet but I sprayed some of them last year with the same fluid and that did for them in quick time.

I will be interested in the result Waddo. We live in the middle of a pine forest and these dreadful creatures are everywhere. I worry about my dog and can't relax until the damn things go into the ground. Last year I poured boiling hot water over endless seething masses as they were trying to get into the ground. We also had lines of them all down the road and in the drives. Myself and a neighbour were running around pouring bleach over them.

My spraying seems to have turned some of the nests brown - will wait a bit longer to see what happens.

Meanwhile I have scoured the net in search of better options but it seems the cut and burn is the best method! One thing that grabbed my attention was this trap: http://www.jardins-animes.co.uk/pest-co ... ak-or-pine

Now being skint and going to stay that way, I have no intention of paying this amount for a bug trap BUT being that sort of guy who likes to re-invent the wheel, I am going to have a stab at making my own trap or two and see what will happen - nothing lost. At least I have learnt a lot about them and now understand that the caterpillar is not one who "parachutes" down from the branches but instead creeps down the tree trunk - now I have a part of a plan and just need to find some cheap scrap things to make my traps out of.
