UK Driving Licence - Renewal at age 70.

I have just received an application form for renewal of my UK Driving Licence as the terrible day approaches: Only to find that I cannot. To get a UK DL one has to be resident in the UK for 2 years! I suppose I should have checked earlier, but I never thought, and its much too late now.
No way of fudging it. Does anyone know if there are any exceptions or forms of appeal?
OK I have got a l0 year TRNC Licence with a few years left on it, but that isnt accepted anywhere else (except Turkey?), not even in the South. I cant walk distances so it is going to make things very difficult if ever I manage to save up for a holiday or need to return to the UK, even temporarily.
Anyone thinking of coming here to live permanently be warned and bear in mind it is one of the boats you may be burning.

I thought you had a U.K. address. If so, then use that. Otherwise, yes, it is a problem. However, I have heard of people going south and finding the TRNC one is acceptable. Maybe they have mellowed. so does anyone know anything else about this. My knowledge is a bit inadequate.

Not too sure about this but maybe you can apply for the International Driving licence - try Googling to seehow to apply and if there's any silly rules/restriction etc. Hope this may help.

I renewed mine this year on line I am 65. They used my passport photo to do it which must be five years old or less. I put my daughters address on the application. It was done in a few minutes.

A UK driving licence is invalid, I believe after 3 months but stand to be corrected, anywhere if you do not have a UK address.
Most folk I know keep a UK address with a family member for just such occurences.
You can use a TRNC licence in many countries, including the UK for periods up to 12 months. From my experince if you try to obtain insurance in RoC using a TRNC licence you will be refused which also means you cannot drive legally ie no insurance.

As a follow on to the International Driving Licence, I also do not know the rules, but maybe TRNC won't come under it, but would it work if you went to the South, and got a P.O. Box, then applied from their.

Rambling Rose ..
How did you get the form .. What was the address to which it was sent ..
Fill in the form using that address .. Get it posted to DVLA in the UK & get someone to bring the new licence out to TRNC ..
Careful with photo .. Attach a new one to the form
Hope this makes sense ..
