How ironic that she is a crime writer that visits North Cyprus to get away from crime.

Why didn't they let me write that one. I always lose out! But she didn't mention that this place is just the best for cheap, romantic, glorious weddings - a place for everyone and a price for everyone, and under the blue skies of the Island of Love.
And the web site of Green islands does not exist. It has been down for maintenance for months, so why did they mention that one? But living where Martina does in Kent, that is in itself a far cry form the East end gangland that she escapes for the peace and quiet of Cyprus. In fact probably Kent is even quieter.
Let's hope that she persuades some people to come out here and boost our economy. We need it!

Martina Cole came out with one of the Richardson clan if I am informed correctly, all I can say is:

East End Gangland ? Nowadays most of them ply their trade from multi million pound, bling, properties in nearby Essex.

Actually i read one page of her book and didn't understand many words. I look them up in the Dictionary but could not find them!

Speed reading of a different kind then? I mean if you rea donly the words tha tyou understood that must have cut down reading time considerably. and how nice to discover someone as sweet and innocent as myself!!!!

Judging by the book sales over a number of years Martina Cole is popular with a fairly large section of the book buying public. Not everyones choice but then no author ever is.

I am grateful that she has opened " Bestsellers" stocking a wide range of literature and always happy to order any book that is currently available.

Its ironic isn't it that somone like a Richardson and friend of MC was asked to speak at one of the meetings for the 112 Emergency Services Org. What amazes me more is the people who actually went to hear him speak. Gangland life is not glamorous in any way whatsoever and the family must have kept the Ambulances and A & E very busy in his time. Idolizing these thugs is something I just cannot understand.

well said sophie i totally agree how can criminals be treated like stars, i think some people have lost the plot!

I agree Andrew and Sophie, there's something very wrong about our society that we treat them as celebrity, when they are nothing more than thugs.

I can only assume that people who support these criminals have either no moral bone in their bodies or total disregard to anyone else other than themselves ie ' I'm alright ' attitude!

As the Thread is titled Martina Cole in Northern Cyprus has anyone else read the interview with her in the travel section of The Daily Mail today ? .

It says a lot about her and her feelings for Northern Cyprus and will probably bring in fair number of tourists as a result.

I have read her article in the Daily Mail,and to my opinion she is living in cuckoo land.
I have been coming to North Cyprus twice a year for 28 yrs and cannot remember being able to cross over from the South then, let alone 30yrs ago.
She mentions all the 5* hotels not the average 3 or 4* where ordinary people go.
She says she goes shopping in Ledra st does not say it is in the South.

Just for the record when I was living in the south in 1989 plus, I used to come over for the day. As a holder of a British passport that was allowed, but I had to be back like some super Ciderella by 4p.m. unless I was with one of the priests when I was alloweduntil 7p.m. the onlypeople allowed to stay were military and the religious (preists etc). But one was not allowed to cross form the north to the south because one owuld have entered by an illegal entry point according to the southerners. So, martina would have been O.K and in a boat!

Such a shame that this article is closed for further comments due to the vitreolic attack s on north Cyprus itself, and the erroneous views of history. One cannot now even write to redress the balance. the only way would be to write tio The Mail, and the funny thing is that according to Martina the Mail approached her to write it. Just shows how very sad things are still that the south cannot forgive the north for wanting to continue to live and not be ethnically cleansed. Of course they hit back but..... as they say 'it takes two to tango; but it seems that there is a lot of solo dancing going on.

I have just read the article in the Mail and thought that it was great that Martina Cole was promoting Northern Cyprus, there is not much opportunity out there in being able to do this, and whatever chance one gets then it can only mean good for the North. OK, there may have been some errors but I would normally put this down to the reporters not recording the information correctly - I have experienced this myself where I had said to a reporter that I was living in Croydon and my wife was chinese, when the article was printed it stated that I lived in Waddon and my mother was Chinese. and that's just one example.

I thought that it was a pretty upbeat article.

What was sad was the vitreolic postings by certain people who are anti nortyh Cyprus and do not seem to be aware of the true history that got the article closed for further comments. I just hope that people readng it will see the positive side of what we have to offer here.

Whatever on emay think of the books Martina writes (and I wish I could make her kind of money) it is fab that she lends her name to this place and to have her good words shot down by others seems unjust. But I think the Mail has now dealt with it. But there was no chance to write a defensive or factual reply.

Butr this place is definitely on the up and up (as maybe some of its problems are) and it needs all the good publicity it can get.

To be frank, if I read an article by Martina Cole and she said the island of Wongabonga was amazing and everyone should visit it, it still wouldn't convince me it was the place to go, regardless of how much money she had made out of glamorising East End thugs.
