Would 46.8% vote "YES" in a referendum?

A survey conducted using face to face interviews with 2,178 persons in the TRNC, for Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Detay’ during February 2017 was published yesterday.

According to the survey’s results, the number of participants in the survey who would vote in a referendum on Cyprus would be 89.2%.

Asked how they would vote in a referendum in Cyprus, 46.8% would vote “yes”, 27.2% would vote “no” and 26% were undecided.

Asked to state whether they trusted President Akinci, 64.2% replied that they trust him, 20.2% said that they did not trust him and the 15.6% did not reply.

Asked to state which issue most affects their lives, 22.2% said unemployment, 19.5% said the economy, 13.1% said health problems and 11.2% replied the Cyprus problem.

So what would 46.8% be voting yes to ? There is no deal on the table yet. ?

They would probably be voting for "Peace and Recognition" at any cost! The alternative would seem to be, carry on being unrecognised by the World, a continued lack of employment opportunity due lack of availability, continued failure of the economy and a continued reliance upon Turkey to keep the country afloat - what sort of choice is there really. But now that the TRNC President has declined to attend the talks tomorrow it is all moot anyway. Now there will be no chance of peace talks, probably never again and the RoC will be laughing up its sleeve for years to come! The UN will automatically blame the North for pulling - anything to retain the Cyprus holiday centre - and still only Turkey will recognise the TRNC. Only chance now is to put pressure on those countries that send their students to the TRNC Universities to also recognise that the country where the Universities are actually exists!

Peace and reconciliation at any cost, I wouldn't think so. I think that Akinci was correct in not going to talks on Thursday (not my favourite man) but I think UN and others could see how he really tried and they should seek to lift embargoes and recognition.

there will be no settlement, as the gcs will always put obsticals in the way of any decent agreement that would help of favor the tcs in the slightest, they will ask for more and continue to make trouble, they do not want turkish army here because when they are gone they can restart there enosis crap again, thats my view, but i think many people out there just want a settlement at any cost which is not a good thing. the un are not much help either, there ment to be peace brokers but always favor the gcs more, i would not hold your breath hedg-fund because when they have had talks it always = 0. july the sun will shine as normal.
