My water pump trips on every 15 minuites for about 10 seconds.

We have checked the system for leaks and all appears to be ok.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Art, have you tried turning off the water to your toilet cisterns, one of them might be dribbling which can cause this?

You are lucky as my next door neighbors pump comes on at least once every minute and that definitely denotes a leak. Every fifteen minutes is par for the course (This is Cyprus ) so I don't think you have much to worry about.

Could be a problem with the non return valve from the top tank or possibly a problem with the ballcock in top tank. We had same problem and both were replaced fixing the problem.

Hi Art, call Serif (0533 860 7841). He quickly diagnosed our problem and resolved it. Excellent service, speaks very good English, reliable, inexpensive and lives in the same village/town as you. How are you and M?

Thanks for the advice everyone-I'm still working on it .

Still no sign of any leaks-thinking it maybe an underground leak.

Tom,

We are fine -but know doubt like you having a difficult year-chin up.

As mentioned, most likely a toilet, either the fill valve which will be evident by water overflowing into the top of flush valve or the flush valve itself or both valves. Very small leaks in to the pot can be difficult to spot. I would suggest that you isolate the water to all toilet and see if that cures the problem.

as you see, several problems can cause this.
best would be to run the pump, close the (non existend??) valve on waterpump outlet (your pump must stop soon) and install a pressure gauge somewhere in the water system, to check whether the pressure in your piping system really goes down or not.
because, also the internal check valve of the "stop press" automatic could be faulty.
if so, then the pump kicks in again, even if the (new) valve on waterpump outlet is closed.

I have started converting over to mains water now with the tank and pump as a back up, with this you do not need the pump only if the Belediyere were working on the mains for repair, i have done some 10 conversions now and customers are well pleased, the cost varies from property to property but an average of 250 - 300 TL, you will recoup the money in electric for the pump going off soon enough call me for a quote 0533 848 3939

We have this problem on a regular basis, normally it's not the water pump, the best method that we have found is to isolate toilets and sinks and then dry the inside of the toilet bowl before placing a couple of sheets of toilet paper to the rear of the bowl. If the paper becomes wet then it's a problem, easily rectified, with the internal workings of the cistern. If you have a hose connected to an external tap, disconnect it as it may be a faulty tap/washer.

converting Arts system to mains water:
- Arts problem is not solved, it is just ignored, especially when there is a leak in the pipework, it can lead to a desaster.
- if you take in consideration that several valves, pipes and pipe work and surely a pressure reducer (controller) is included (otherwise some equipment is in danger, as eg, your hot water storage tank or kombi boiler...) and which alone does cost 150 to 200 lira, 250 - 300 lira for converting is a real bargain.

Art, ours was doing that and Serif did fix it for a long time then it started again. I could find no leaks from the toilets, taps etc but then heard a very faint noise from the upstairs toilet cistern. Called Serif, new cistern.....never a problem since. Hope this helps

As said, toilets are by far the biggest cause of leakage that results in pumps kicking in and out. Very small leaks can be hard to find and isolating toilets is a good way to highlight the fault. Its important to regularly wind isolation valves in and out to keep them working OK. In Cyprus, the best system would be the old fashioned (british) ball cockl and syphon flush and this leakage would not be an issue. If the waterl from Turkey comes in at better pressure then pumps maybe a thing of the past. As said in an earlier post conversion to this is low cost. Happy flushing, and a happy March!
