Maggots and Almonds

Our almond tree is a wonderful sight to behold and smell at present, laden with blossom. It will in due course produce a good crop of fruit, as it does every year, and every year each and every almond will contain one big fat maggot and nothing else. Anybody know what to do about this, and when to do it?

Maybe ask Hatib at Best Dreams. His details are on this forum somewhere, just search for it. He`s very knowledgeable.

Hello check the problem you have on google find out the insecticide you need and spray the tree. I don't think you can spray when in blossom but soon after when fruit starts forming you can. I believe this happens in the older trees. Good luck

Thanks. I did try googling a while back but could only find American sites - probably different insects and products . Will have another crack though. Just thought there maybe somebody with local knowledge. I may possibly just give up and buy nuts from the supermarket as I have done for years, but I think I am being inconsiderate to other growers in breeding the beasties . I do know that it is considered a social responsibility to control the Med. fruit fly on one's trees.

I had similar problem with Apricots, went to garden shop in Girne ( walking from big car park towards Pia Bella about 200 M on left) he provided some chemical that worked fine.
