Dear All

As someone who will live in TRNC in about 18 months. Im wondering what the situation is with FW fishing up there. I am aware of all the dams in the south and the sport they offer (water permitting)

so:

What dams in TRNC hold fish

Where are these dams

What species of fish

What sizes are these fish

Are licences required? if so where from please?

Are there any TRNC fishing clubs?

many thanks and sorry about all of the questions.

The only place to fish is a lake on the Golf Course. I fished once with a club, it cost about 60 TL for a five hour fish. The Lake contains some nice Common and Koi carp BUT!!
and the big but is someone has had the great idea of introducing Talapia, the lake is full of them all about 2 inches long. As soon as the bait goes in its gone. If you want a keepnet full of 500 Talapia at the end of the day great.
It would be good if the Dam was stocked with fish but I don't think it is.
I used to match fish in the UK before coming here but as yet have not found anywhere.
As for the Sea, forget it the Med is fished out... All the fish sold here are farmed.

fear not, i was born in and spent 17 years of my 53 in cyprus (south). I am well in tune with sea fishing there, ill get you into it when im living there, we can catch bream and mullet from the shore. litzer and amberjack when in season. occasional sea bass. garfish etc etc.

its not all lost, trust me. its knowing where to go, when to go and how to fish.

If you can find fish bigger than 3 inches in length here I'll buy you a Fish Supper.

You just have to look at the size of the netting used by the "So Called Fishermen" here. Nothing gets through.

due to the drought and the only fresh water that have still had water in over the last 5 years are the dame and as you say the golf club although that went very low 2 3 years ago so unless there have been some introduced fish this year how can there be anything bigger than a tadpole unless they are supper fish and if so would they not grow to the size of a wale over 3 years
I went fishing with one of the locals when i lived in yeni erencoy got up at 4 am in the freezing cold went to 2 places down at the point past the abbey the biggest thing we caught after loosing £10 of tackle in the rocks and the bait witch cost about £5 was 5/6 in a long day with a plate of fish that seemed from 3ins to 6ins some caught i said why not throw that back and perhaps when it grows up if allowed it might meet the might of our biggest catch of the day 6ins
sold all my stuff now and stay in if i wake up early since then i fish in bed with the misses lot warm and you dont have to wait so long for a bite or bit

I know that Ayanidere and Dagdere Reservoirs hold carp to a couple of pounds as I have seen photos, but I don't know how big they get.

Gates... You know like me the mentality of the local fishermen... I see them with a bucket of small fish and ask are you live baiting with them or eating them. They always say eating them they will make a nice soup!!!! when I've caught another 20 !!!

Went up the new reservoir on Wednesday last week and there about 6 fishermen there. Didn't see them catch anything.
Haven't read anywhere that they had stocked it with fish. Don't know about licenses but I expect you do need one.
