Addressing an event to commemorate the March 25 and April 1 Greek Cypriot national holidays, Anastasiades asked: “To discuss confidence building measures such as, for instance, the Navtex issued everyday by Turkey?…the celebration of July 20 when they invaded Cyprus? Or November 15 1983?”

Anastasiades said that efforts by the Greek Cypriot side’s efforts to deal with the crisis in the talks, calmly and wisely, should be appreciated.

“At the same time, as I have said to the TC leader, he must also understand that correspondent sensibilities, can be found in those who were, in his words, victims of the Turkish invasion.”

Anastasiades went on to say that: “Consequently, it is not possible that a simple reference to an historical fact recorded 67 years ago creates a crisis, while at the same time their actions which offend those who lost their father’s homes, their livelihood, their lives, those who are still missing, go unchanged.”

I really can't understand why talks continue, although only having lived here for just over a year and holidaying for the past 8 all I read in respect of the talks is mistrust coming from both sides, the Greek Cypriots seem to want everything and the Turkish Cypriots don't seem to stand up for what should be their given rights. Let the talks now come to an end and move on.

I think there will be an agreement and referendum later this year.

I think there will be some sort of proposal put forward to a referendum. Not convinced that the people of each community will vote for it tho.
