Just like a nasty divorce isn't it. Husband and Wife can no longer tolerate each other and want to part company and yet one of them makes it hell for the other, drags it out as long as possible, bleeding the other dry in the process. Its going to take years sadly, but the sooner we get rid of the bloodsuckers in the EU the better.

it is not about the divorce (husband and wife),
its eg, about
- their children (eg, running EU programs) and
- "mom and dad" (eg, pension claims)
- other guarantees ( eg, wages) given by UK

but this seem to complicated for many.. "bloodsucker" sounds simply nicer.

Geroff,
I, and very many others, would welcome you to settle that bill.

Perhaps you thought there wouldn't be a cost for BREXIT !!

I look at some of those countries in EU and wonder where they would be if we had not intervened in the last war. Talk about stab in the back. Cannot wait to get out.

Waz , if it costs 50 billion, there are ways GB will recover that cost , ask me how, well, there will be deals you and I wont know about! ... Asking for this will be traded off, but then again its all huff and puff from over inflated jumped up dummy throwing fools ..

I wonder how much the EU owes the UK in property values alone ?

Really no need to go EU bashing now.
The costs to leave are primarily to meet obligations and commitments made over many years. No member state has ever left so new experience for all. Divorce however is no new phenomenon and I know of almost none that have been cheap.

Time to settle the bill and get on with it.

No doubt EU assets will be discussed as well as liabilities as part of the negotiations. To answer your specific question the EU has property assets of around 8 billion euros. If the UK is due say 12% of that asset then that would be just shy of 1 billion 'owed' to the UK. If you take all the EU assets that could be considered 'accumulated wealth' these come to around 41 billion euro. 12% of this would be around 5 billion euro. None of these off the cuff calculations take into account that some of this 'accumulated wealth' would have been from before the UK was an EU member.
