Painted eggs ,, like so many so called Christian traditions, are probably of pagan origin and adopted and adapted by Christianity. They are certainly not unique to Christianity, nor are they essential to it like, say, the Cross.
Chocolate eggs are more a tribute to the great God of commercialism rather than a symbol and the Death and Resurrection of Christ.
The word "Easter" is also probably of pagan origin relation to a pagan Godess with rather unpleasant rites!
It would be a very great shame if the omission of one word from a secular project were to be taken as another source of friction in our horribly hate ridden world.
It also seem rather trivial on the same day as new of more chemical bombing in Syria.

As an ex-Cadbury employee I'm absolutely appalled at what's happened to this once great company.
Kraft have absolultey ruined Cadbury and they should hang their head in shame.Traditional British values and customs have no place in the corporate thinking its all about -- PROFIT . Cadbury were a fine company to work for and following the Kraft takeover they closed a manufacturing plant having promised this would not happen. They reneged on an agreement and many people lost their jobs.
They are now owned by yet another corporate organisation who are equally as bad as Kraft and hopefully the British public when purchasing their tradional Easter Egg will choose another manufacturer who actually respects British values.
Rant over and enjoy your EASTER EGG.

This turned out to be an absolute non story. Cadburys website even had the word Easter in it, plus the word Easter was mentioned another dozen times or so in the text. Clearly not enough for some people who like a little mock outrage!!

Are you referring to people like Teresa May and the Archbishop of Canterbury who wholly condemned the advertising campaign and the National Trust.
I don't think they had a "mock outrage"

As RR has pointed out, rather trivial compared to what else is going on in our small, and currently unstable, World. Cadburys are a business and will do whatever they can to max profits. Good or bad news is still free advertising.

Agreed,
It just so sad to a fantastic British company lose it values and traditions.

Of course the founder of Cadburys, while a Christian, was a Quaker and therefor did not celebrate Easter...
The only reason that they ever put the word Easter on the eggs in the first place was simply a hard-nosed business decision - they thought that they might sell more chocolate eggs that way - and now that the demographic has changed, they obviously think the opposite.
I think that they might sell more if they had some eggs with Easter on them, and some without

I was horrified by the reaction of the Prime Minister of England and the Archbishop of Canterbury. I would have hoped they both had more sense than to support a media sensation, and more important things to think about.

I also avoid Cadbury since they were bought out by Kraft and who then lied about protecting UK jobs as Art explained. They have also changed the chocolate receipe to a sweeter one the Americans prefer, awful (have you ever tried a Hershey bar?).

You are absolutely right.
Changing the recipe and reducing the unit size of the Brand is called " Cost Enginerring " and most manufactures do this to prevent price increases ,protect market share and to maximise profit.
Sadly the consumer always pays but have the right to boycott the product.

I remember when companies used to cut jobs/employees under the label of "productivity increases"...It was never that, as there was no increase in production - only a reduction in costs.....
Management-speak, better described as "communication management", spin-doctoring, distortion of the truth or just plain lies.....
