Just for information, if you are going South using your new passport for the first time make sure you have your old one with you or you won't be allowed to cross.
It happened to me today, luckily I was only going shopping but had I been going for a flight from Larnaca it would have been a real problem.

So, I wonder what would happen if you had lost the old passport and that is why you had a new one?

Was it to do with residency stamp being in the old passport ? I know when my partner got a new passport she had to keep taking both old and new until she also renewed residency and it was added to the new passport.

No, it was nothing to do with residency, apparently because I had entered the country on my old passport she was unable to trace where or when I had entered TRNC. She was quite unhelpful and offhand about it all, she just said it was the rules.
