I totally agree with these comments posted on LGC NEWS today:

The biggest question remains unanswered. Why do we still want a settlement with the Greek Cypriots? Why do we want to give away our independence? The Greek Cypriots want majority rule. They haven't forgotten ENOSIS. Another thing. Do we want to be governed by the Greek Cypriots and the EU. And don't forget Turkey is not a member of the EU.

Totally agree.

I believe Turkey would like to pass on the burden of the TRNC To the EU, it will still have influence without constantly having to pay out for the failed state.

Hardly a failed State, it's never been allowed to thrive!

Why are very large hotels and sky rise apartments and shops being built everywhere if its a failed state? More expensive cars on the road everyday, we have never been better off while the greek side seems to be going down the pan.

I believe the whole aim of the entire process is to eventually get the Embargoes on the TRNC lifted.

Possibly the whole aim is to get the world to recognise the TRNC officially. Following that the Island can stay as it is with free passage back and forth to the RoC (taking into account immigration laws in place or being put in place on both sides) then what would be the problems? Minority groups on both sides will always say: But they have our houses/land etc but over the years ways and means have already been found to exchange in both directions, why not just let it continue?

Free trade and direct flights should be the priority for the people of the TRNC so they can move on and develop their country

Direct flights recognition etc will not happen until the negotiation process has been exhausted
