i just had a call from a friend saying the border had been closed due to some police incident anyone know anything about it??

I haven't read the detail but it seems that some ROC policemen apparently crossed the border whilst in pursuit of a 19 yo Turk. I am guessing this may be related to the Border closure ?

All crossings were temporarily closed because of a GC demonstration at the Metehan crossing - As Scruff writes, the GCs were protesting the detainment of the three GC police officers. The crossings are now functioning as normal.

If you request google alerts on news for Turkey and Cyprus your internet will to keep you up to date on a daily basis with all the latest political news etc. between the two countries including TRNC, its quite interesting to see the comments posted, sometimes with much animosity as you can imagine.

How could the officers not realise that they had crossed the green line.

According to a cypriot friend they chased the young turkish lad across gardens and fields close to dekalia and broke his arm, but were detained by the army for crossing the line.
I still think you should tread carefully if you are crossing over until this quietens down.

Coffee shop gossip, 'everyone crossing from the north will be stopped and everything, including vehicles will be checked.

You will be fined for anything that they consider to be 'out of order'.

Went to Larnaca yesterday no problems either side!!
