Today I saw a calf (baby cow... but not so young as it was rather large) standing up in the back of a small hatchback car. Sorry, tried to take a photo but car turned off road just before I could take the picture.

The weirdest thing I have seen?. Every time I look in a mirror. Trust me, don't look in mirrors when you have passed middle age.

Without being flippant (for a change), similar to the experience of Soner, whilst at a petrol forecourt, I saw a BMW arrive and park with a handsome goat standing sideways across the expensive, leather back seats. It had it's head out of an open window and was bleating. I said to the driver "how cute is that" and he replied "he does not know that when I get him home I will slit his throat ready for the family to eat". I have had thoughts of becoming "vegan" ever since !

Several years ago I saw a tractor pulling a cage type trailer with women getting out being dropped off to work in the fields ?? At first I thought they were prisoners ?? It was a bit of a culture shock to see women being transported this way but they all seemed ok. Never the less it was a talking point with me for a while.

Down on the old Catalkoy runway - whilst walking my dog with my 11 year old son - a man in his 50s if he were a day - walked past us just in his speedos with a wire going up to his ears! it was quite yukky - but very very amazing!

A couple of weeks ago at the Wednesday Market in Girne. A not very old big Merc pulled up at one of the stalls, and it was full and i mean full of what looked like Tree Branches. The back seat was full up to the car roof as was most of the front seat as well.

God knows how he managed to see where he was going. But as usual no B****y camera.

Could it have been Mulberry branches? - Sheep, goats and rabbits seem to like munching them... - or maybe he was raising silkworms!

Soner, if you think what you saw was wierd come over to Sinai. You will see Bedouins transporting 3 - 4 fully grown camels all hunkered down together on their knees in the back of their Toyota pickups. Sometimes the kids are in the back with them as well!!! If I get to see one I will photo it & e-mail it to you as it's quite a sight

Art . Did it involve her in dropping the mobile phone or steering with the knees ? Women claim that they can multi-task. Did the car go in the direction indicated ?

Well in defense of the girls, it was a man driving the hatchback with the cow in the back.
Art and DD you are both pushing it.... I am sure it will not be long before you both get a good roasting, lol.

Strangest thing I saw was one of those four wheel drive monstrosities (you know the kind expat men drive to try to bolster their declining masculine egos* and disguise their expanding waistlines) in my rear view mirror. It was driving with dipped headlights so it didnt blind me , and at a safe distance behind in accordance with the highway code. And, would you believe, although I was driving a small car doing a safe speed on a narrow twisting road , it never tried to force me into a ditch so it could overtake on a blind bend and drive off at high speed scattering pedestrians and animals in its wake.

Then I woke up.

That cracked me up Rose

OK. Here's my story ... it comes from the early 90s ... but in Istanbul ... not in the TRNC.

It was the middle of Winter and a friend couldn't start his car, so a mechanic came out to his place. I was in shock when I arrived at my friend's place to see that he and the mechanic had lit a fire under the engine. My friend explained "It's a diesel engine and we need to warm it up."

It was probably the best way to start the car, but it certainly looked "weird" at the time ...
