I have to go to the UK in a couple of weeks and my residency will have expired by then, as I've turned 60 I intend to test the waters at Ercan passport control regarding entry-exit without current residency with a view to possibly renewing when I return.
Will I have any problems?
Has anyone else got recent experience on this.
Thanks

You should be fine. Just reiterate your age if questioned. However, no personal experience except at Metehan where there is no problem.

Should be no problem, my wife is over 60 and she has exited many times with no issues.

I returned through Ercan 2 weeks ago and asked if i could have a 90 day to see me up to my 6oth in June,no problem he said (my residency expired 2 days after getting back). Shock and horror at Metehan 5 days later when i was fined for being over the expiry date. 187tl later and much sympathy from the staff there,I had my precious 90 days. the rule as explained to me is to go to a border point on the day of expiry of your residency BEFORE 12.00 NOON and get a 90 put on the system....this bit was not explained at Ercan...

That's a bit contradictory!
There's been no mention anywhere of the need for 90 day passes, but hey this is Cyprus.
Think I might have to do some ferreting around at immigration.

When they returned their residency was still valid hence why they had to leave and return.. on re entry a visa is issued to allow you enough time to reach, 60, renew residency or work permit. Having elderly parents I always used to go out at 23.50 and return 00.10 to ensure I could leave without a fine as my work permit generally took 3 months to renew.

TML. We have been contemplating not doing residency as now both over 60. Like you will be flying out a couple of months after expiry. We never go to the South so would have no border stamps. Would we now be considered illegal immigrants or is it okay as over 60?

I am moving out to N. Cyprus around September time. I have owned a house since 2001. I am under 60 and had intended to apply for my residence permit once I got there. Do I have to do this prior to arriving in Ercan to resettle? If so would you recommend using the BRS to guide me through please?

Boerbel; I would have said no problem until I read Caveboy's post. As I said questions need to be asked.
Mr Davidson; unless there's been a change that I haven't heard about (quite possible) then you are OK with starting residency within six months of moving here.

snd1966; a bit different surely? in my instance i've already reached 60, I don't need a work permit, and don't intend at this point to renew residency.
So the question still remains; will I have problems at Ercan on my return from the UK?

You are normally given 90 days automatically at Ercan check your stamp, during this 90 days you can do your Residency which actually is a 12 monthly visit visa.
If for some reason you dont complete in 90 days cross into south ask how many days you are given they dont stamp passport.
Has said above their is a gentleman's agreement with the current government for over 60's .

I am 64, I got residency when I moved here full time as I was told I needed this to get my TRNC driving license, my residency expired 15 Dec, I went to UK via Ercan on 20 Dec and returned 2 Jan, no problem leaving or returning and I don't intend to renew, my wife who is under 60 was fined on leaving and has renewed her residency since without problem
