Bit of a silly question - where can you buy plain white toilet seats? Have seen some flowery ones in places like Stormax but just want a plain one!!

saw some nice wooden ones in Leroy merlin down south.
They looked good but I don't know if they pass the splinter test, which can be painful.

Thanks for all your replies! Just to note there are different sizes of toilet seat especially if buying from the south so take measurements!! We got them from Ermatas in the end, didn't realise that there is an Aladins cave of items behind the counter (that looks like a 'trade' counter but isn't!) got some guttering from there too which they delivered free which was a bonus!!

Last time I was in Gench we saw that they had the modern 'slow close' seats which do not slam down and wake the whole house. Very good quality too. Well worth the extra cost.

Sue msg7-soft close toilet seats were obviously invented by a woman, and as such should be banned!

Now what would be a great invention would be an Auto-Rise toilet seat with a built in sensor that detects a male entering the bathroom, possibly in the early hours and in the dark.

I have struggled for a while as to how this detector would work, and have come up with the following ideas:-

1.Fart activated (as most blokes break wind upon entering the bathroom-Although on very rare occasions it is noted that men break wind in other parts of the house)
2.Cheap aftershave scent activated.
3.Fly Zipper sound activated (not sure how this would work with button flys)

So far I have not managed to build a working prototype, although I have had to re-tile the bathroom floor 3 times in the course of my extensive testing.

Philoz. Keep going through the motions and you will come up trumps (or drive yourself around the bend). I doubt you have done market research first as I expect most do not want to know and will "stick" with Gench !

I bought a slow release toilet seat from Ermatas last week, was quite shocked at the price 250 tl !!! But it is very good quality and I had trouble fitting it so they came and fitted for free!

Sorry Flowerfairy,

I forgot to check and answer your query.

Hand duly slapped by myself!

Did you get one from Genc(h) no Turkish keyboard. Were they really such an awful price?

We bought 3 from B & Q when in the UK (for UK house) they were £35 each.

What a handy load of info, as only this morning I realised i needed a new seat for the en suite. We had a fancy one that is flaling to bits. But one thing I learned from the last time Ibought, and that was to take a pattern with me, because there are so many different shapes and sizes. If you can't actulaly take the seat, then do as I did and make a paper template.

But thanks agian for the info, as I want to buy a cheap and cheerful one. Maybe buy a pretty cover for it. The fancy one we bought was a waste of money.

Marions -you made a paper template of your bum?
Personally,I prefer to try them before I buy them.
I believe Ermetas do a fitting service.
I wonder If it like getting shoes when you were a kid at the Clarks shoe shop-they measured everything there.
Although having your bottom fitted size wise could cause unwanted embarrassment, especially in a shop full of people, and possibly small children.

Thanks for the giggle Philoz. No , not my posterior - difficult to do da sola, but a template of the existing seat (as in toilet - not mine). Hope that clarifies the situation. the thought of trying to do a template of my own rear is somewhat daunting! the different shapes and sizes was not referring to human anatomy, but to the various toilet seats. once upon a time (back in the dark ages of my childhood) I think there was one 'bog' standard |(pardon the pun). Now variety seems to be the order of the day from definitley well rounded to almost square (and I am still talking of the toilet seat).

Hope that clarifies any confusion. and thanks again for the giggle - I am still smiling!

What is it with men and toilets is their aim so bad? Dont lift the seat then there is no problem for the next one in usually the Mrs.
