the Bandabulya in lefkosia is finally coming alive with funding from the EU and supportedby the UNDP PARTNERSHIP FOR THE fUTURECypriot Yelpaz (Fan) Project
The YELPAZE Project”. Is funded by the European Union and supported by UNDP Partnership for the Future as part of the “Bandabuliya Cultural Activities” there is to be a full programme of craft activites over the coming weeks, and more details wil be shared here as soon as available. But for now, how about supporting the YELPAZEproject! The Yelpaze is a traditional Cypriot hand made fans from palm leaves, using the technique of knitthjng and weaving (a bit like the Palm Sunday crosses in terms of tecnichque).
There are to be three of these on 12th, 19th and 31st october when under the guidance of Sidestreets, teachers and students from Ataturk Technical lyceum will be leaidng workshops in which anyone may participate, absolutely for free!

On tall three dates it will be between 10 a.m. and 3p.m,

everyone is welcome and anyone wantingmore info before going is welcome to contact Sidestreets on 0392 229 3070.

Take the kids to learn how to do it (maybe after school) or take yourself and learn more of this traditional craft, and more importantly take a look at the new bandybulya which so far is like a ghost town. This should bring it to life. ″.

I love it there and always pop in for a coffee when in that area. However I was a bit miffed last time when the owner of the coffee shop on the right hand side as you go in, tried to fleece us big time in his conversion from Euro (which is what the price list was in) to tl. He obviously thought we'd just come over from the South, via the crossing around the corner!!
